16 October 2015 – Our Dogs

This weekend saw two Championship Shows for us at Builth Wales. On the Saturday we had South Wales Championship show and our Judge was Jean Banfield and on the Sunday at the same venue was The South Wales Papillon Club Championship Show with Liz Bartram as our judge.

I found the drive there on the Sunday really pleasant and the autumn colours of the turning leaves where spectacular and a joy to be leaving the midlands behind. On the drive I wondered how the SWPC committee could transform the cold stark cattle sheds into the warm and cosy atmosphere we all know and love at the club shows. Apart from the horrendous floor which they could do nothing about, I walked into a gaily dressed ring in an area of the sheds with doors directly out to the parking area. Free Hot Tea and Coffee welcomed all and was available throughout the day. We had the usual stalls and raffles and a very relaxed friendly atmosphere prevailed all day. The committee had pulled out all the stops and should be congratulated, a job well done! I had the privilege of judging the juniors, of which there were 2 classes and 4 entries. My Best Junior was Cerys Lewis 14 years. I certainly may not have had huge numbers but the quality of the handling was very high indeed. All juniors worked well with their dogs and took direction very well.

Again it was the weekend of Travis to take Best of Breed on the Saturday followed by winning the Group, then on the Sunday he went Best In Show after which he had to dash to the main ring as it was the second day of General Championship show and he had to compete further along with all the other group winners for Best In Show there. I would like to take this opportunity of congratulating Irene and Glenn as Travis is now the NO 1 Dog All Breeds in the UK at time of going to press. Another pair of delighted exhibitors on the Sunday were Kay and Kirsten, as Kirsten had piloted their Bitch to take both BCC´s at the shows. Thus making her a Champion subject to KC approval. Anke was also over from abroad with her Toot Sweet Papillons on a mission to qualify for Crufts, which I am pleased to say she did.
