Well, the sun brollies are in use, ice cream a plenty and it has all lasted more than twenty four hours. Now that is something to go on the memory board and rejoice. Of course, this is at the time of writing these breed notes, but let’s stay positive, Mr Sunshine is all set up to stay for the summer months ahead. Talking to folk that journeyed up to Border Union Champ show in Kelso the sun was beaming 24/7. How fabulous is that for all those that go up for a week’s holiday, incorporating the show and enjoying the beautiful countryside whilst in their caravans or motor homes.

This year at Border Union the Pap folk must have had a glorious day wearing summer sandals instead of wellies. Breed specialist Mrs Carol Lees (Lafford) was taking the helm and from the pictures I have seen looked summery and cool for the day ahead of her.

Her principal winners were as follows; BCC/BOB Mary Whitehill’s Rozamie Madame Marcelle, DCC Lesley Morton’s Harley’s Wild Echo at Lynflyer. I believe this was the third magical cc, so many congratulations to all concerned. BP was Carol Montgomery’s Papplewick Pride and Joy at Carrollryan. The RCC’s; for the dogs it was Sharp-Dixon/Reyes and Lynn’s Afterglow Adonis for Queenslake and the bitches Karen Smith’s, handled by Jennifer, Ch Papplewick Pretty In Pink at Adinaken JW shCM. Congratulations to everyone not just the principal winners but the class winners too.

For all of you caravanners, I suspect it will be Blackpool bound here we come. Any news and snippets from Blackpool please let me know for inclusion into the breed notes. I hope the weather stays sunny and bright for the show. In previous years the Blackpool weathers reputation is shall we say, not exactly five star rating.

After this we have Windsor, many peoples favourite show with the royal scenery backdrop. So let’s hope the sun brollies will be out in force, with the strawberries and cream.

Please take note that for Leeds Champ show 17 there has been a change of judge. Breed Specialist Liz Bartram (Burghbridge) has been brought forward from 2018 as Jackie Leslie due to circumstances is unable to fulfil the judging appointment.

Hazel Malcolm brings news that she had a successful show at Chepstow and District Canine Society with her youngster Feorlig It Must’ve Been Love taking an exciting TPGP1 under breed and group judge Tim Ball (Kaitak).

One of my favourite open shows and many other doggie folk is the Royal Cheshire Agricultural Show. This year the sun was shining and the place was heaving. So many things to see, vast marquees with more items to browse than you have time to see. Dogs, horses, cattle, pigs, rabbits, and birds, the list is endless. Funfair rides with play activities for the children. It really has everything for the family day out. Incorporated into this is the dog show. So well attended by locals and top show folk, it is just a fun day out. So if you are able to go next year I would highly recommend you paying a visit taking your four paws with you.

The rings are well laid out and large marquees close to the rings for shelter and grooming space. I went along with Mimi and it is so lovely to meet up with everyone from the show world, very relaxed and happy environment. The Papillons had a change of judge as Mrs Jenny Peters was unable to be there, so Meg Purnell- Carpenter stepped in at the last moment. She found her BOB as Valerie Lockhart’s Rozamie Dream Chaser with Chetruda and BP/ TPGP2 Irene & Glenn Robb and Jan Roosen’s Miss Martini Royal De Costalina Suniren. Martin Saunders was the judge for the TGP.

So, until next week take care of yourselves and the four paws. Most importantly have fun and enjoy every minute of what all love doing, showing the dogs.
