08 July 2016 – Dog World

Border Union Champ Show at Keslo is always a long journey for most exhibitors and indeed many take their caravans and motor homes for a week’s holiday. The weather was a mixed bag but this we have come to accept here in the UK, after all, many of us are wondering if summertime exists any more.
Parking is always organised and your allocated parking area is always within close proximity to your benching. Luckily it did not rain so showing was in the outside rings rather than the much smaller rings in the wet weather tents. Refreshments are aplenty and you can enjoy a varied assortment of menus. There was plenty to browse with the trade stands, so a good social day for all.
A first time judging appointment, so an exciting day for breed specialist Pat Cox (Tricianbri) who went over the dogs kindly and gave the dogs an opportunity to put their best paws forward.
The principal winners for the day were as follows; DCC/BOB Sean Carroll & James Newman’s IR/GER/CZECH CH Hundebuden’s Juno Pondabudens, RDCC Irene & Glenn Robb’s CH Gleniren Shootin Starmaker Sunshoo, BCC Mandy & Callum Thorton’s Cheeky Celia at Shevis, RBCC Penny & Jim Robin’s Jaroma Lady In Waiting and finally BP Mary Whitehill’s Rozamie Madame Marcelle.

At Yeovil & DCS Premier Show, Sue Stanbury had a lovely day with her youngster Inixia Bee’s Knees taking TPGP2 under Mr Derfel Owen (Sirfon). Many congratulations.

The saddest news came through that Ruth Johnson (Dourhu) had passed away peacefully at home at the end of June. Ruth and Douglas came to UKTD in March and we like many others must be so grateful that we were able to have a conversation with her at the show. Her valued presence in the breed for so many years is something that will stay with us in time and history of the breed.
I will hopefully be able to collate together her lifetimes work in a future breed notes. We will miss this lovely lady, whose cheeky smile and twinkling eye of mischief will always stay with us.
Our thoughts and condolences go to her beloved husband Douglas, her three daughters Linda, Fiona and Brenda and all her grand and great grand children. Ruth’s funeral was held at Aberdeen with donations to Cancer Research and the BHF.

The Papillon Clubs Papfest is on the 17rth July at Brailes Village Hall, Nr Banbury. Lots of things are going on including and Open Show with Kevin Arrowsmith (Rozamie/Aroowbien) judging. KC Limited Agility Show with Denise & Alex Walsh and Debbie Goodwin. A Fun Dog Show with lots of fun classes for you to enter, make sure you join ‘Pink Carole’ (Carole Lees) and Melanie Mann for a rip roaring time. Carole also is sorting an egg and spoon race and there is a wobble boards demonstration of why and how with Debbie Goodwin. Jeanette Maggs will be staging interactive games for your dogs’ mental stimulation and Brian McLoughlin (AHT Member) will answer your questions on “Give a Dog a Genome”. Sue Duggan is also there with many lovely items for sale to generate funds for the Papillon Rescue. Sounds like fun for everyone who will be there.

Drive safe on the roads and enjoy the shows to the max.
