08 March 2024 Papillon Breed Notes

Crufts is here and let the excitement begins. A very special day for our Papillon judge this year breed specialist Glenn Robb from the Gleniren affix. Glenn will be judging his heart breed and one that he has grown up with since the age of six years of age. I know he will be so excited and honoured to go over your beautiful Papillons on the green carpet. For me, I will be bursting with pride watching Glenn doing something that means so much to him, in fact a dream definitely come true for us both. Glenn wishes to thank every exhibitor for their entry and giving him such marvellous entry numbers for the show. He is very humbled and grateful to each and every one of you.
Good luck to everyone and enjoy your Crufts experience. It’s going to be exciting.

Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club held their Open Show on the 4th March at Carlton Village Hall, Goole. This was the start of a new beginning for the club, with Jerry Munroe taking the helm for the first show as acting show secretary. I was watching the show on Papillon Live’ and Jerry did a wonderful job with the help of his hard working committee.
A good entry had been received for Bethan Evans, of which I am sure she must have been thrilled with. Unfortunately Bethan came down with a nasty chest infection being very unwell and on strong antibiotics. It must have been a hard call to have to ring the secretary and say it was not possible to judge at the show, she must have been so upset. I am so sorry Bethan, but I am sure very soon another opportunity will be there for you to judge another breed show. Your health must come first and I am sure you were graciously thinking of the exhibitors who would be present.
This left the secretary with the dilemma of finding a replacement judge. Breed specialist Helen Walsh (Purepixie) was chosen and I am sure all the committee are grateful to her for doing so. I really hope she enjoyed the experience of the day.
The raffle table looked full to the brim and a junior handler’s birthday was celebrated with a rendition of Happy Birthday. For the Junior Handling Mandy Keown was the judge. She awarded Madeline Pinder Best Junior in Show.
There was a puppy walk during the lunch and Mandy also saw the puppies through their young paces. It was nice to see a good selection of puppies present. I think it is always exciting to see the babies take their first steps in the ring and imagining what the future may hold for them. It is going to be an exciting year for those exhibitors for sure.
The judge found her principal winners to be as follows.
BIS /BD Jo Davidson Poston’s Dual Ch Sky Butterfly Elven Cron Prince Spinillons SHCEX SK Winner 23 (imp Rus), RBIS / BB/ BOS Pinders Afterglow Barbette with Starmarla who also took Best Special Beginners In Show.
