10 June 2016 – Dog World

Bath Championship Show well what can I say; the committee excelled themselves once again. Each year they reach heights of excellence that one thinks cannot be surpassed but yet again this year they did it once more. Every details of the show is immaculately presented, the bowling green rings are beyond our wildest dreams, all marquees are laid out in military, pristine condition with plenty of grooming space and the BIS marquee is the prize in the jewel. Trade stands are a plenty and this year even the weather behaved itself. One word can be said, just ‘perfect’.

This year Mrs Karen Farrell was to be the judge for our breed, with the weather being dry wasn’t it nice to be able to have the use of the outside ring of the in / out marquees. The choices for the principal winners were as follows; DCC/BOB travelling to the UK from Belgium Kathleen Roosens Multi Ch Daydream Believers Lion King, BCC and BV Lord and Irene Buckley-Waters Sempefidelis Dulcidine. Many congratulations as I believe this is a magical third challenge certificate. I am delighted for you. RDCC Mr & Mrs Shane Church and Carine Rutten’s UK Int Ch Powdermill Sweet Touch Spinillons and RBCC Church’s Invanse Tantrums ‘n’ Tiaras. BP Wiggin’s Rozamie Monsieur Arthur for Scapafield.
With it being a Bank Holiday I am sure the journey home was at times resembling a car park on some motorway, but I hope the journey back was not too stressful.

I have a couple of Open Shows to report success with our breed. Julie Clint had a lovely day at under Mr Callum Thornton (Shevis) and the TGP judge Mrs Kath Newson (xenos) when Papplewick Persian Power JW went TGP3.

Karen & Steve Maskell had a great evening at Boston Premier Open Show where there was an entry of 30 Papillons. Kazkell Robin the Limelight JW went on to TGP3. Well done to you all for flying the Pap flag high.

A new directive from The KC that I thought you should be made aware of:
ENTRIES ON THE DAY AND PROOF OF POSTING
. The Kennel Club wishes to remind exhibitors of its Proof of Posting (POP) policy.

The Kennel Club is aware that on occasion entries do get lost in the post. However, a small number of exhibitors may be exploiting the Proof of Posting system by various means.
In order to address this unsportsmanlike behaviour, the Kennel Club uses a Proof of Posting database which lists everyone who makes an entry on the day of a show, and, in particular, whether Proof of Posting was provided on the day. The Kennel Club will contact exhibitors who have not provided Proof of Posting or Proof of Online Entry following the show.

If an exhibitor is found to have been entered onto the database twice, they will be notified that, should they make a further entry on the day of a show, the matter may be referred to the Committee and could result in the disqualification of awards. If subsequent entries on the day are made, the only proof of posting that will be accepted is the Show Society’s confirmation of receipt or an email receipt from an online entry company or a copy of a bank statement. Repeat offenders will be obliged to send their future entries by recorded delivery or enter online.
Exhibitors who have experienced having their entries lost in the post may also wish to consider entering online or sending their entries via recorded delivery. In this way, exhibitors can be certain that their entries have been received and there will be an opportunity to resubmit entries prior to the closing date should any future postal problems arise.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “No one likes to think of exhibitors circumventing the rules, but sad to say there will always be a small minority of people who do this. It is for this reason that these measures concerning proof of posting are in place to ensure a level playing field for all.”

A new training club has evolved within the area that I live. So for folk that live in the Cheshire / North Wales area I thought this news might be of interest to you. North Wales Canine Society opened their doors Tuesday 5th January 2016 with four founder members all with a major interest in the canine world. With experience from all levels Championship shows, open shows and most importantly loving the hobby they were involved with.
The club meets every Tuesday 6.30pm starting with the child handlers class which has been very successful. Watching future handlers grow in confidence is very rewarding. From 7.30pm they have a puppy socialisation which also has been of great benefit to newcomers and puppies starting their show careers. I have been told how many present have commented on how they love this part of the evening all trying to keep there puppies in a stacked position while they shake the bin bags, squeak the toys and several other things to try and distract their new puppies. An open dog section at the end of the evening is where anyone is welcome to join in any class regardless of age
The club members join together to share their knowledge and try and help where ever they can, something that may sound ridiculous, however to a newcomer entering the show scene an enormous help. Think back when you first started showing, it can very often be daunting.
They are happy to video your dogs so you can see where improvements can me achieved. They hold workshop corners for the newcomers that want to show for the first time. Taking things right back to basics, how to enter a show, looking at the schedule, where to search online for shows also how to gain a JW Shcm, all of which puts our new exhibitors at ease.
Homemade food is available at very reasonable prices, which makes the evening very sociable as there is a bar too.
Classes are held both indoor & outdoor depending on the weather. This is great to be able to do this to acclimatise youngsters on different ground. The club invite a guest judge every six weeks were a mock show is held for best dog and puppy of the evening.
The club has had a great beginning with having ten members join each month that shows the effort and acclaim that they are receiving. The membership is £2 single and £3 for joint membership. £2 on the night for ans many classes as you wish.

A few weeks ago they held their first Fun show for charity choosing Macmillan as it’s very close to lots of members’ hearts. When they set the date they had just a peppercorn bank balance and were determined to have a great day. They called in all their doggy friends’ associates, neighbours, family who have overwhelmed the club with their kindness, allowing them to put on a fantastic show with Rosettes Trophies prizes great raffle and raising £707.74 for Macmillan cancer, an outstanding amount. Even the weather served them well with wall to wall sunshine.
I went along with a view to feature the club in the DOG WORLD breed notes, I must say they put on a marvellous day for all participating. The committee members were smartly dressed in their club uniform and organisation was second to none. There were stands of interest for all to browse and some homemade food on offer. They received a mega attendance from seasoned exhibitors, newcomers to the show world and companion owners. What a super way to promote the dog world, this may be the first stepping stone for North Wales Canine Society but a bright future surely lies ahead.

The one thing that comes across loud and clear is that it is a friendly club with a super atmosphere and will give all attending a social evening. They deserve all the success that will be coming their way, so pop along to North Wales Canine Society at the The Club House Oak Rd, Wrexham Industrial Estate, Wrexham LL139RG on a Tuesday evening, promise you won’t regret the experience.

At Border Union breed specialist Mrs Pat Cox (Tricianbri) has a lovely entry of 84/91. There has been a change of judge for the TGP, it will now be Mrs Liz Stannard. Usually lots of you take your caravans or motorhomes and have a little break in them there hills, so lets hope for plenty of sunshine.

At Three Counties breed specialist Mr Roger Banfield (Kingshaven) has another super entry of 104/106. Toy day is on the last day Sun, 12th June. On the Dog Biz info site judging commences at 9am, we are in wet weather Bay 4, ring 7 and are first in the ring. Is does say that we are in the Severn Hall but however reading the diagram layout it looks to be the Wye Hall, on your arrival just be aware.
