12 August 2016 – Our Dogs

This weekend was the turn of the SoE Papillon Club to host its Championship Show on Sunday the 7th. The judges were Doc Tony Allcock MBE (Sleepyhollow) and myself for the specials and JH (Alex Forth). It was also my first show as a committee member, so it was a very early start to the day at 4am. The journey to the show was quite pleasant, travelling first down the M5 then the A417, so it was quite a shock to find myself in the most horrendous traffic jam on the way home, just 4 miles from my exit. It took 2 hours to do 2 miles!! I hope other exhibitors fared better. A few days before the show the committee where notified that the kitchen would not be available to them, so with swift haste, they pulled together a lunch buffet for all the exhibitors and free tea and coffee. The hall was super, with a great ring layout and an area for the exhibitors to all get together, which is better than being disjointed. So a very pleasant day was had by all.

What a discovery. I had the privilege of making at the show in a young future star for sure namely Isabella Cox. She entered the Junior Handling 6-11 class and totally commanded the ring. This duo went on to win a further breed special class under me. She had total ring presence. Was completely aware of her dog at all times and kept my attention. I was totally bowled over to discover at the end of my classes that this was her first time in the ring. What can I say other than she surely has an extremely bright future as a handler.
