The world awoke on the 1st November with the saddest of news that Jan Roosens of De Costalina Kennel had passed away. Our hearts are heavy and in complete disbelief. Our close friendship spanned more than two decades and with it grew an unending love of the Papillon and a partnership within the breed that created great joy and huge success. Jan was a wonderful man taken far too soon and our hearts go out to his lovely wife Paulette, his daughter Kathleen and his extended family.
We will always hold our fond memories of Jan close to our hearts, especially his humour, his language barrier when he decided he wanted hear something else, his drive for success and his huge heart. Through the years we built a foundation of honesty and great friendship that lead to multiple dogs being made into champions, group wins; all breed BPIS winners and multiple BISS speciality winners. I will never forget how Jan was bursting with pride when we made up his very first UK Champion and TGP1 with Siljans My Man (Imp SWE) and then a first De Costalina UK Champion with Getupand go De Costalina Suniren. Magical moment were also when he when he took TG1 at Crufts under Tom Mather with Ch Queen Bless JP Royal Connection and not forgetting Jan’s daughter Kathleen taking BIS at Crufts. These treasured memories will stay with us forever and the joy that journey brought to both Jan and ourselves will be something we will always cherish.
We feel honoured to have had this relationship and are able to continue Jan’s legacy within our dogs and we are forever grateful to him for entrusting us with this as he did. Jan you were loved and always will be by so many globally. We wish we had been able to see you more over the recent years but we know how immensely proud you were of your dogs, their offspring and now that legacy will live in your name with your dedication to the breed.
You will missed for sure and always be in our hearts.
Sad news once again for the passing of Pat Smith, who had the well known Pinelan Kennel. Pat’s funeral service will take place on Wednesday, 17th November at the Loughborough Crematorium at 11.45am. Condolences to her husband Wal and close family. Also to her friends in the breed who were close.
