14 December 2018 – Breed Notes

So, the last show of 2018 was upon us for The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club Open. I am sure as usual the club put on a fabulous show with a merry festive spirit aboard. The show started just after 10am with the invitation of a free tea or coffee for exhibitors on arrival plus the added extra surprise of a free goodie bag which included chocolates and a ball for the dogs.

The venue was spacious, well run and it was obvious to all present the committee had made a lot of effort to make this a special day for all the exhibitors present. I am told there was a great selection of tasty food available throughout the day, especially for the dinner menu. The club stand table was filled to the brim with excellent presents for those planning Christmas gift shopping. The club stall is run by Chris Anderson and I am sure the club is very grateful for all her hard work. Also a well filled table for raffle prizes was there for the winning.

This was a special show as the loveliest man in the Pap fraternity was taking the helm and judging our pretty breed. Mr Doug Johnston of the well respected affix Dourhu had travelled all the way down from the most northern point of bonnie Scotland to spend the day amongst Papillons and Phalenes. Doug’s late wife Ruth who was a shining gem in the Papillon world would have been so proud of Doug today, I am sure she had a huge grin from ear to ear. Congratulations Doug on the appointment, no one deserved this more than you and I am thrilled for you.

During the dinner break, Lance Morley wo another Best overall Junior Handler taking home a beautiful rosette and other prizes. Also the puppy walk took place with a few puppies present for a practice. Oh, how I love to see puppies treading the boards for the first time, it is the highlight of the show always for me. The clubs secretary Mr Brian Lees made a few presentations during the dinner break, one of them being a gift for the judge Mr Doug Johnston, commending his affix being in its 50th year.

Principal winners for the show were as follows. BIS/BD Sue and Jon Caton’s Ch Never Let Me Go Forussi at Henrix who also won BPHIS with Lennox Vive Vanette at Henrix. RBIS Susie and Margaret Orchard’s Ringland Yoko’s Solo at Panspayon, BPIS/ BPD Caroline Lee-Slater’s Magic Sunrise Ace Ventura, BVIS Pat Munn’s Smile Line Silenzio Sunshine Garsive.
