17 March 2023 Papillon Breed Notes
Eukanuaba Finals for the Pup Of The Year (POTY) and Champion Stakes was held on the 3rd Feb at Chesford Grange.
This is a yearly prestigious event, with all the qualifiers over the year gathering together for a spectacular afternoon with a dinner dance in the evening. The event is carried out with clockwork precision and the ring looks so smart carpeted in the Eukanuba colours. Phil and the Eukanuba team work tirelessly to make everything spot on for the exhibitors and their charges. Our Dogs gave full coverage and what a good job they did with the commentary and live stream.
It is no easy task for the dogs to qualify, they have to win through the day of their day of showing and then go back on the last day to compete against the winners from each day of the Championship show. So for some it consists of spending many miles in the car over a few days for the trips to and fro.
The judges for both events are not known until just before the afternoon proceedings commence. So an air of anticipation is always in the apparent. This year’s judges were announced for The Pup of the Year it was to be Mr Mike Gadsby from the famous kennel Afterglow and for the Champion Stakes well respected and highly successful Mr Staurt Plane.
What a glorious sight it was to see so many beautiful examples of their breed all gathered in one ring behaving and showing their socks off impeccably.
Brilliant news for our heart breed The Papillon having such a successful day with our Selena (Ch Gleniren Daddy’s Starmaker) taking a magnificent Runner Up Pup Of The Year to Faye Bevis’s handsome Akita Gunner. Glenn and I couldn’t have been more proud.

Sue Stanbury gave the date for Len’s final farewell. Sue wrote:
The service is be held in our village church, which is St Michael & All Angels Church, Sowton Village, Nr Exeter, EX5 2AF on Thursday 23rd March at 2pm and afterwards, at the Blackhorse, which is situated opposite, as you turn into our village.
No flowers please, but if you would like to give a donation, it is to go to South Wales Papillon Welfare, as Len was Secretary & Treasurer of the Club, it seems only fitting.
I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you, to all those that took the time to send cards, letters, messages, flowers and well wishes. I can truthfully say that they were very much appreciated.
Obviously this is a very sad goodbye and I will miss him dreadfully, but as I have said before, Len loved life, so I would like his day to be a celebration of his time, he spent on this earth.
I think, if Len is looking down on us and is able to read the heartfelt messages I have received, he would be well and truly chuffed.
Everyone in the Papillon world will be thinking about you Sue and Jo.
Take care everyone and enjoy every minute of spending time with your butterflies and moths.
