18 November 2022 Breed Notes

A double showing weekend at South Wales Kennel, this year there was the extra show of South Wales Papillon Clubs Championship Show. As soon as judging finished for SWKA the judging was to commence in the same ring for the club show. A bonus was that It was so nice not to have to get up at the crack of dawn with us not having to arrive early for SWKA. On arrival the hall was bustling with activity and it was good to see so many exhibitors showing for all the breeds. The Papillon ring was of a good size and plenty of wide benching and areas for grooming. SWKA committee always give of their best to make sure everyone is happy and all areas are ready to be received.
For SWKA the Papillon judge was breed specialist Mr Joe Magri of the Rozamie kennel, looking very smartly suited for the occasion.
The Toy Group was judged by Carol Lees (Lafford) and the Toy Puppy Group Mr Tom Isherwood (Stagedoor/ Afterglow).
The judging appeared to be going smoothly along with the help of the stewards and the judge was going over the dogs in a kindly manner on the table.
The principal winners were; BCC/ BOB/ BPIB Kirsty and Evan Ryan and Jens Goessen’s Uppercut Daydream Believers with Feorlig (Imp Bel), DCC Kirsty and Evan Ryan and Kathleen Roosen’s Ch U Knock Me Off My Feet Daydream Believers with Feorlig (Imp Bel). RDCC Anne Griffiths with Dr M L Griffith’s Manawyddan Harryhare and the RBCC Caroline Lee Slater and Christine Kewley’s Magic Sunrise Natalia (Imp Lva).

The South Wales Papillon Club worked hard to give the atmosphere of a club breed show which has been very much lost at some previous club shows in a similar situation There was a raffle table for the club and Sue and Len Stanbury with the help of the committee worked very hard to make it feel like home. Jo Sellick, Sues daughter managed so well with the stewarding.
For this show the judge had travelled all the way from Bonnie Scotland, looking very smart indeed when entering the ring it was well known breed specialist Mrs Joan Savage (Abbeyton).
Invariably it was always going to be a long day and by the time judging had finished it was dark outside for leaving. But everyone had smiles on their faces and well done to the committee, you all did an amazing job.
Mrs Savage went over the dogs sympathetically with a gentle air on the table and gave everyone a chance to make sure their charges performed to their best ability.

The principal winners were as follows; what a brilliant day for Anne Griffith’s homebred Manawyddan Harryhare taking the DCC. This was truly a special day as it was Anne’s first ever Challenge Certificate and there were lots of celebration to come when she took BIS. Well done everyone at the two shows and congratulations to all those in the cards.

I was very saddened to hear the news that Alan Bartram had been taken to hospital seriously ill. What a very worrying time for Liz and all members of the family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you all.
Update just received: News today is that there has been some improvement and Alan has been taken off the Life Support and is responding well, my goodness that is the best news to hear.

Anne Borg (Elendil) is now back at home from her stay in hospital. Keep well Anne and don’t go overdoing things.

Stay safe everyone and enjoy those four paws. If you have any news of Open Show successes please contact me, we all want to applaud you loudly.
