19 August 2016 – Dog World

South of England Papillon Club held their championship show at Tidworth in Wiltshire. The committee headed by Kirsty Wells did a brilliant job ensuring the hall was in spick and span condition with a super ring size and grooming areas available. A table with an enormous array of quality raffle prizes on offer for all exhibitors to partake in and the lucky winners must have been delighted. There was also a single raffle of a large butterfly picture. Which Glenn and I were very grateful to win, however it would just not fit in the car so it has been donated back to the club for a chance to raffle at their next show. Tea and coffee was available from the club all day and a well laid out buffet lunch donated by various members as there were no catering facilities at the venue.

The well respected Toy specialist Dr Tony Allcock MBE ( Sleepyhollow) was to be the judge for the day and arrived looking immaculate as always. Judging was delayed fifteen minutes due to traffic problems but from there on the day went smoothly along with the help of two very capable stewards. Dr Allcock MBE had received a super entry with which I am sure he was delighted. He went over the dogs with an air of calmness, in a direct manner which is so much better for the dogs than the airy, fairy approach. The latter only confuses the dogs and they get agitated and fidgety on the table as they are not sure what the judge is doing. But not so today, they knew what was happening and just stood happily on the table for him. The judge gave every exhibitor the opportunity to let their four paws put on their best performance and with the spacious ring size it was possible to evaluate movement as they were not restricted for space.

Slightly different programme procedure today as with most breed shows the DCC is done at the end of the day but at this show the DCC was awarded before the lunch break. During the lunch break Alexandra Forth (Omegaville) judged the Special Award Classes, junior handling and the puppy walk. The best Junior Handler for the show was Isabella Cox who I believe was taking her first steps in the ring, very well done Isabella. The puppy walk was as entertaining as ever, always a certainty to bring a smile with the puppy antics of the youngsters taking their first steps in the ring. It is always a highlight of the day for me, trying to spot the star of the future. When these activities were concluded, the bitch classes commenced and the day once again got under way.

The principal winners were as follows. DCC/ BIS Irene & Glenn Robb’s Ch Gleniren Shootin’ Starmaker Sunhoo. This was Travis’s sixth Speciality Breed BIS win to date and his third this year following on from Northern & Eastern Counties Papillon Club the week previous, so as you can imagine we were thrilled to bits. RDCC / RBIS was Joe Magri & Kevin Arrowsmith’s Ch Rozamie Dream Lover who also took the BCC/ BOS and BP with Rozamie Madam Reeva. RBCC / RBPIS went to another youngster Pat Cox’s Tricianbri Tuppance A Kiss. BV was Michele Osborne and Sue Stanbury’s Ch Tykkydewas Santa’s Gift to Inixia and BPHIS Valarie Sparke’s Pinkmead Delightful Eve. Congratulations to all the principal and class winners.

Paignton Championship show a few days later, here it was a judge travelling from Scotland, breed specialist Mrs Joan Savage (Abbeyton). The car park is hard standing and close to the entrance so this bodes well for all weathers. This show is inside and a ring that is smaller in size but adequate. The grooming area is always an issue at this venue being cramped for space. The benching is never close to the ring, so everyone in all breeds has to juggle with trolley space to be in closer proximity to their ring area.

The restaurant area is excellent with a good variety of quality food, whether snacks or lunches. Perhaps some would say a trifle costly but it is always nice to sit down and eat in pleasant surrounding. The trade stands are away from the main hall so in some cases they are forgotten as they are not under your nose as a reminder to view. However Paignton is a pleasant venue and always well run by the committee.

The principal winners for the day were as follows DCC/BIS Magri & Arrowsmith’s Ch Rozamie Dream Lover, a delighted Anne Borg took the BCC with Petress Dark And Daring. Congratulations to Teresa and Peter Cullen her breeder. RDCC Sue Stanbury’s Inixia Saucy Sam, RBCC Alexandra Forth’s Ch Omegaville Make Me A Petitchien, BP Valerie Sparkles’s puppy Phalene Pinkmead Twistin Time and BV Karen Maskell’s Kazkell Velvet Dream JW. Well done to everyone at the show.

At Bakewell Premier Open Show Lynne George-Evans was thrilled to be awarded TPGP3 with her youngster Jorgealin Moon Shine and also TGP4 with Jorgealin Moon Magic. The breed judge was Lynn Crane and TGP judge Sue Smith.

The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club held their first KC Limited Agiltiy Show with the judge being Mr David Mansfield. The results were as follows; Class 1 small agility graded 1. 3. Grade1 Viv Ellis’s Lucindale Aruf Ti Bubarets of Aristopaps, Grade 3 Tamasine’s Stretton Herumen Mountain Cerrig. The joint Championship Show this year hosted by The Papillon Butterfly Dog of Scotland at the Lanark Auction Market in Lanark with judge Marian Sloane (Austerene) has a lovely entry of 115/139. The club must be really pleased with that. The show is on the 27th Aug.
