23 December 2022 Papillon Breed Notes

Happy Christmas everyone, I hope you all have a fabulous festive holiday and Santapap calls at your home with some special Christmas cheer.
With the 2023 New Year approaching I guess we all are ready to step on the hamster wheel once again. Is that a yes!!

A few changes are afoot for the 2023 show scene.
East of England Championship Dog Show will be moving to a new venue at The Rutland Show Ground, Showground Way, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 7TL. Camping will be available but with no electric hook ups. The show days are as follows: 6th July Utility and Terrier 7th July Gundogs 8th July Working and Pastoral, 9th Hounds and Toys.

Remember to put those new dates in your Our Dogs Diaries. Not got one yet, well be certain to pencil that on your ‘to do’ list. You can pick one up at the Our Dogs stand or they will post one out to you. There are different sizes to choose from, so there is one just to suit you.
I tell you I couldn’t do without mine it is the only thing that makes sure I end up in the right place!

The Kennel Club has announced that the YKC Summer Camp returns to Rutland Showground on the 30th July – 4th August. Deposit bookings open in January. And great news – camping and training fees will be at 2022 prices! Get ready for a brilliant holiday Juniors!
BENCHING AT GENERAL AND GROUP CHAMPIONSHIP DOG SHOWS

The Kennel Club would like to announce that following its recent Board meeting it has been agreed that the requirement for benching for General and Group Championship dog shows will be relaxed for a two-year trial period commencing the 1 January 2023.

This decision has been taken having listened to feedback from exhibitors and due to concerns expressed by show societies about the strain on shows’ finances at this present time.

Applications for exemption from benching will now be considered by The Kennel Club for next year’s shows. Those show societies which wish to apply for exemption from benching will be required to submit revised show plans and risk assessments. The Kennel Club will be contacting show secretaries direct with further details.
The Show Executive Committee will be regularly monitoring the impact on shows and Field Officers will be assigned to report on those shows for which exemption from benching has been approved.
The Kennel Club can confirm that it will continue to provide benching at Crufts.
For further enquiries, please contact breedshows@thekennelclub.org.uk.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out and if it will be of a monetary benefit for the societies and all exhibitors whatever breed you show. I know in toys we do not necessarily require the benching but larger breeds may be of a different opinion.

The Our Dogs Annual 2023 was launched and on sale at LKA, many folk were excited to see the latest annual. The pictures are just amazing of all the dogs and there is so much interesting, informative information to read. It certainly is without doubt a read not to be missed. If your passion is dogs and you are showing either in the UK or around the world, you honestly need to get the annual now or you will live to regret it. Make your way to the Our Dogs stand at the shows and take your copy home. It will give you hours of so much enjoyment. Far better than watching Celebrity get me out of here!

As soon as the last points are counted for the Top Dogs Awards I will include them in the breed notes. It has been a truly remarkable year for many exhibitors in the various breeds, including our kennel of which we are so grateful and appreciative to those that have given us so much support and honoured the dogs with such awards, thank you.
BUT please always remember, if you personally have achieved what you set your sights on at the beginning of the year or even come close….. YOU are a winner too. If not then don’t despair 2023 can be the start of wonderful things to come.
Have just the best Jingle Bell Rock Christmas and I am wishing each and every one of you joy and happiness in the coming year.
Have a good one folks.
