23 November 2018 – Breed Notes

It was the turn of the Northern & Eastern Counties Papillon Club to host the joint show this year and by all accounts the club put on a show that excelled in every way. NECPC always give of their best for everyone attending their shows, exhibitors, judges, stewards everyone is thought of to make it a special day. So ‘hats off’ to Wendy Walter the clubs secretary and all the committee.

For this show N&ECPC welcomed you with a breakfast roll and beverage, I am sure for those that had travelled a long way it started the day off in the right manner. All exhibitors received a special goodie bag, one of the contents being a lottery scratch card, which I believe there were a few lucky winners. So congratulations to those who were fortunate to increase the coffers!

One of the special classes introduced this year was in honour of the clubs beloved late chairman, named appropriately as the Jimmy Simpson Memorial SAS. This special class commenced prior to the dog judging, that way, keeping things moving in both rings. What fabulous support with an entry of fifty. I’m sure spurred on by the offer of prize money. £10 for 1st, followed by £5, £4, £3, £2 for the remaining placements.

Throughout the day the club gave spot exhibitor prizes. Theses ranged from M&S vouchers. Gin, Vodka, Champagne, Scentsy Warmer, Grooming box, Fifi bedding, Elevated Dog Bed. Kezang Gift Voucher for a ring clip of your choice. BIS also received a special ring clip too.

The puppy walk was well supported by Handmade by Fifi, all receiving a goody bag, containing a lovely blanket. So, even the little newbys were thought of. One thing I do love is seeing the baby four paws taking their first steps in the ring; it can be amusing and exciting to see what lies ahead for them.

During the afternoon the club served cake and little bit of sparkle with Buck’s Fizz giving also a soft drink option. I am sure all the exhibitors were most appreciative for all that was on offer during the day. I would suspect the raffle table was full to the brim and more prizes for all those winning tickets.

So, now down to the reason everyone was there, the judging. The club must have been pleased with the entry of 173 dogs making a total of 269 entries (plus 16 NFC). Howard Ogden was judging the dogs, breed specialist Estelle Kirk the bitches. Norma Inglis was the referee. The special Awards class was judged by Ted Rogerson and the Junior Handling Magda Maganyork who found Lance Morley as her overall Best Junior Handler in Show.

Engraved glassware was presented to the judges and principal winners and Valerie Lockhart crafted some spectacular cards for BIS and BPIS.

The only blip for the day was Howard Ogden experiencing I am told a car malfunction. So he was unfortunately unable to arrive at the venue until midday. But all was shuffled around admirably by the club and the situation was resolved in a blink of the eye.

The principal winners were as follows. BIS/BCC Caroline Lee- Slater’s Ch Jorgealin Cast a Spell for Kingshaven also taking BPIS/ RDCC with joint owner Mrs C Kewley Magic Sunrise Ace Ventura (Imp LVA) , RBIS/DCC Kirsty Miller and Evan Ryan’s Ch Feorlig Smarty Pants JS SHCM and BPB with Feorlig Smart Cookie. Best Phalene in Show Karen Maskell and Miss M C Waller’s Lilnrose Ears Looking at you Kazkell, Best Veteran in Show Jane Thompson and Sandra Austin’s Jhanakia Highland Destiny. RBCC was Susan Lanson’s Cantoverde Royal Chyna.

Congratulations NECPC on making this one fabulous show. Enjoy your shows and will report on the Open Show front next week.
