24 April 2023 Papillon Breed Notes

Sorry for the pregnant pause in the breed notes, hotmail has a lot to answer for with changing the layout by the day. Completely confusing. Computers are great as long as they work smoothly but for a non computer technician it is a nightmare. But all good now with a new email address so best feet forward. Please note if you wish to email me with any of your successes check out the new email at the end of the notes.

So, Crufts was here after a long awaited wait and gone in a flash. Then it is everyone aboard the hamster wheel for the 2023 shows.
What a special and exciting day it was for the Crufts judge breed specialist Caroline Lee- Slater (Graycaz). I watched everything on Papillon Live thanks to Gary Thompson. He really is a life saver giving enjoyment to those unable to ahead the shows. This year Glenn just went with little Izzy Pom who unfortunately at the show had a tummy upset so Glenn decided that it was a rest day, so no showing for her.
The carpeted rings make such a difference showing off the dogs in all their glory. Papillons were in the usual ring 29 in hall 5, nicely tucked away in a corner away from the hustle and bustle of the usual Crufts mayhem.
This year’s Crufts the Toy Group judge was to be Dr Annukka Paloheimo Segersven (Finland) and Best In Show Mr Stuart Mallard. What a privilege and an honour for these two very well respected dog people.

A wonderful day for Sean Carroll and James Newman was in store taking the DCC / BOB and TGP4 with Ir Ch Eryanto’s The Great Guinness Denemore. Many congratulations to you both on a fabulous day.
The BCC went to Yvonne Weber who was over from Germany with Multi Ch Nightfire’s Very Special Bet Dt Jch/vdh Jch/slo Jch/wjw. This was a magical third cc with this little girl making it doubly exciting, gaining the UK Champion title. Best Puppy was a very pleased Helen Marsden with her homebred Finity Run The Gauntlet. Best Veteran was Karen Maskell’s Kazkell Thyme to Dream JW ShCM VW. The RDCC over from America Ms S & Mrs B & Mrs C & Ms E & Mr R Stemmler & Winthers & Peel & Vandemolen & Winther’s Ch Clearlake Mgl-Isle Nestle Quik of VW. And lastly RBCC Mrs K F & Miss K & Mr J Ryan & Roosens & Goessen’s Uppercut Daydream Believers with Feorlig (Imp Bel) JW.
Hope by the time you all went home and had a rush round the trade stand there was enough in the coffers for a cuppa on the way home.

The next Championship show on the calendar was United Kingdom Toydog Society. This show is always a favourite with so many people including myself. Bryan Claydon this year had the honour of judging BIS and BPIS. For the Papillons the judge was breed specialist Lady Jane Thompson (Jhanakia) and as usual the ring was situated in the Prestwood Centre. UKTD is always known for a good entry throughout the breeds and this year did not disappoint for the Papillons, the judge must have been super pleased.
The judging went smoothly with the help of the very competent stewards keeping everything ticking along nicely. The principal winners were as follows: A delighted Mary Whitehill taking a first DCC and BOB with her homebred Amicae Mr Chips. The BCC was a very excited Susie and Margaret Orchard taking another first cc with their homebred Panspayon Natasha JW. Best Puppy was Irene and Glenn Robb’s little one who was attending her first show being six months the day before the show Gleniren Oops I Did It Again Sunshoo. She loved every minute of her day and was shortlisted whilst in the big ring for BPIS.
Talking about the BIS ring the committee had made a marvellous job making it look superb.
Best veteran was Karen and Steve Maskell’s Kazkell Robin the Limelight JW Sh.CM. RDCC Carol Lee’s Lafford Black Onyx with Lindsay Slater handling. RBCC was Irene and Glenn Robb’s Ch Gleniren Daddy’s Starmaker. Best Special Beginners Pam Taylor with Capriccio at Kanetayl. Well done to everyone.

The day after UKTD was Blackpool & Fylde Toy Dog Society Open Show where Helen Walsh (Purepixie) was judging the breed. The judge found her principal winners to be BOB Carol Lee’s Lafford Golden Child JW and BP Mandy Keown’s Keomandi Fly Me To The Moon. Congratulations to you both.

Next week will give all the news from the much awaited Centenary Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club Championship Show. I am so pleased that club has received a bumper entry for this very special occasion.
