25 January 2019 Breed Notes

The second Championship show has been done and dusted and we are nearly at the end of January 2019, where on earth did that month go. Better start saving for Christmas, it is going to be here in a blink of an eye. Manchester Championship Show held at the Staffordshire Showground is run like a well oiled clock and although we were not present at this years show I expect the exhibitors received the welcome and hospitality that is norm at this show.

This year the breed judge for the Papillons had breed specialist Cheryl Lockett (Cheryldene) at the helm. From the pictures I have seen Cheryl as always looked very smart and ready for the day ahead. The principal winners were as follows: DCC/ BV/ BOB Jo Davidson-Poston’s homebred GB Ch NL Ch Ir Ch Int Ch Spinillons Rebel Rowser J, BCC Helen Walsh’s Jorgealin Moon Star At Purepixie, congratulations to her breeder Lynn George-Evans. BP Griffith’s Rozamie Vie En Rose Manawyddan, breeder Joe Magrie. For the RCC’s; RDCC Sue Morrell’s Serenglade Leap Of Faith For Temelora, breeder Linda Greenslade and the RBCC Jill Varley’s import Ambre Dore Beata Bea At Coxleyview (Imp) JW. Mandy Thornton took BPD with Logan Milbu Ciciobello at Shevid (IMP LVA). Congratulations to everyone who took a principal award or taking a placement for the cards.

For the open and limit shows, Ann Macgregor had a brilliant show with Sweetbriar The Poser, at St Andrews, Cupar & DCS Limit Show in the Corn Exchange, Cupar taking BPIS. The judge was Wilma Morrison.

At Stockport Toy Dog Susan Lanson came away a very happy lady taking BOB with her homebred Cantoverde Royal Chyna JW under judge Evan Ryan.

Ted Whitehill, the secretary of the Papillon Breed Council has sent us details of the somewhat confusing information on the roles of Assessors, Observers / Mentors. I think it will be an interesting and informative read for everyone.

Under the Current System which will be replaced by the JCF the Kennel Club changed the criteria for Assessors recently, this is as detailed below:The Kennel Club Board has agreed a change to the criteria to be an A2 assessor, in that any judge who has previously awarded CCs in the breed can undertake this role, provided they are listed on the Kennel Club’s Find A Judge facility and have judged the respective breed within the last ten years according to their FAJ record.Under the JCF system the following applies

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR BREED MENTORSIndividuals eligible to act as a Mentor for their breed must meet the following criteria:Someone who already awards Challenge Certificates (CCs) in that breed (if CCs are available for the breed) OR
A judge who is currently active or has retired from judging and has the regard of the breed clubs OR
Judges with recognised and current experience in a breed, but who may not have owned the breed OR
A respected breeder/handler who does not judge, or has yet to attain JCF Level 4 themselves, but has achieved success within the breed AND
Has good listening skills, who are able to respond to Mentee’s questions accurately AND
are able and confident to impart knowledge and provide constructive feedback to Mentees

Please note: There is no requirement for Mentors to have an active JCF judging licence.

Persons wishing to be considered as a Breed Mentor should contact their Breed Education Co-ordinator (BEC) in the first instance.

A central list of Breed Mentors will be complied by a breed club/council or clubs and held by the Breed Education Co-ordinator (BEC) who will submit the list, including any amendments, to the Education and Training Team for its records. This list will also be available online will be updated by the Education and Training Team upon notification by the BEC from 2019.
Breed clubs should confirm with Breed Mentors which of the four mentoring scenarios (listed under ‘Organisation of Mentoring’ below) that they wish to participate in. Mentors can choose not to be a Mentor for some of the scenarios if they wish.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR OBSERVERS The Kennel Club issues the following criteria for breeds to compile their Breed Observer list, any of which may be taken into consideration by breed clubs when compiling a central list of Observers – please refer to the Responsibilities of an Observer listed below for more information:
Someone who is registered at JCF Level 4 in that breed OR
Someone who has previously awarded CCs but has retired from judging and has the regard of the breed clubs
Please note: There is no requirement for Observers to have an active JCF judging licence.
A central list of Breed Observers will be complied by a breed club/council or clubs and held by the Breed Education Co-ordinator (BEC) who will submit the list, including any amendments, to the Education and Training Team for its records. This list will also be available online will be updated by the Education and Training Team upon notification by the BEC from 2019.
All Breed Clubs have submitted names for inclusion on the lists for both the Observers and Mentors, this list has been approved at the Kennel Club and is available on the Kennel club Website. It should be noted that the list can be amended.

Well I hope that has been a help to everyone making things a little clearer.

Good luck at the shows you are attending and please remember to forward your news so it can be included in the OUR DOGS breed notes.
