26 August 2022 Breed Notes
A double show at the The East of England Showground at Peterborough. The General All Breed Championship Show and The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club Championship Show. So, a busy day was ahead for the exhibitors present.
The two shows had brought a good entry of well over a hundred plus, perhaps this will be the way forward for the future. With the cost of living, petrol and entries etc something has to help widen the purse strings to enable people the chance to participate. Breed shows were always in years gone by a special event in their own right, perhaps the atmosphere and the sociability aspect is lost at a general championship show. But in today’s world needs must and if it helps the situation at this present time then it is something we will have to get used to for clubs to survive.
The rings were spacious and side by side so this made life easier for those tricky moments when classes clashed. Which invariably as always with two shows running concurrently, clash they do. Chris Headley the clubs secretary always made sure to keep on top of things and The Papillon Club waited very patiently at times and exhibitors were very grateful.
Gary Thompson was there with Papillon Live in full flow covering two rings. Great for the folks at home so they could keep up with the proceedings.
The general Championship Show commenced with their classes first and well respected judge Tim Ball arrived looking smart and ready for his day of judging Papillons and Phalenes. Mr Ball went over the dogs in a kind, confident manner and the dogs on the table were calm and collected with him doing so. All exhibitors were given the opportunity to put their dogs through their paces and everything went smoothly along with the help of the experienced stewards.
The principal winners for this show were as follows: A delighted Irene and Glenn Robb when their youngster Gleniren Daddy’s Starmaker took the BCC/ BOB / BPIB and later in the day taking a Toy Puppy Group 2 under Maureen Betts. She was also shortlisted in the Toy Group under George Farmer. DCC and Best Veteran was Jo Davidson-Poston with Ch/ir/nl/int Ch Spinillons Rebel Rowser JW ShCM Cw14 VW ShCEx. RDCC was Elaine Davidson’s Elmaraine Chasing Rainbows, RBCC Tom Isherwood and
Sandra Stone’s Tonkory Waiting In The Wings and Best Special Beginners Mandy Holmes’s Elfuago Booyah. Congratulations to everyone for your placements and awards at this show.
For the club show well respected breed specialist Mary Whitehill (Amicae) was judging the show. This would be a special show for Mary as she had made the decision that this would be her last judging appointment. Mary has always contributed over the years so much to the breed and we are very grateful for this lovely lady’s knowledge and time she has given us all. Mary will continue to show her beloved Papillons at all the forthcoming shows.
Chris Headley the clubs secretary did a sterling job, keeping everyone up to date on where the classes were up to whilst the other show was going on. As mentioned previously classes clashed but everyone patiently waited and we all got there in the end.
Mary went over the dogs perfectly on the table just as you would expect from someone who was an experienced breed specialist. The stewards kept everything steadily on the move and the judge saw that all exhibitors were given a chance to put their charges with best paws forward.
The principal winners for the club show were. DCC / BIS went to Irene and Glenn Robb’s Gleniren Who’s Your Daddy.
It was a lovely result for Elaine Davidson taking the RDCC and RBIS with her home bred boy Elmaraine Chasing Rainbows.

Leeds Championship show was another double show with Northern & Eastern Counties holding their championship show after judging finished at the general champ show. Leeds show is held in the beautiful surrounding of Harewood House Estate.
Good entry numbers for both shows of a 100 plus. The ring was of a good size and there was adequate benching room. For the Leeds Champ Show it was to be toy specialist Raewyn Dowsett judging our lovely breed. Judging commenced on time and the judge arrived looking summery and ready for the day ahead of her. The day went smoothly along with Miss Dowsett and her capable stewards making sure everyone was able to show their four paws to the best.
The principal winners for Leeds were as follows: BCC/ BOB/BPIB/ TPG1 and Best Puppy In Show Irene and Glenn Robb’s Gleniren Daddy’s Starmaker . Selena was also shortlisted in the Toy Group under Howard Ogden and the Toy Puppy Group and BPIS was judged by Mr Steve Atkinson. To say we were thrilled would be an understatement.
DCC Kirsty and Evan Ryan and Kathleen Roosen’s Ch U Knock Me Off My Feet Daydream Believers with Feorlig (imp Bel),
Best Veteran Jane Thompson and Sandra Austin’s Melanagel Highland Vogue at Jhanakia .
For the RCC’s; the RDCC went to Sue Stanbury’s Inixia Made By Design and the RBCC to Kirsty Miller, Kathleen Roosen and Jen Goessen’s Uppercut Daydream Believers with Feorlig (Imp Bel). The Best Special Beginners spot went to Cheryl Proctor’s Lynflyer Rainbow Catcher.
Few moments breather and we were straight onto the Northern & Eastern Counties Papillon Club Champ Show. The judge was toy specialist Norma Inglis (Craigowl). Once again with being a toy specialist Mrs Inglis as did the previous judge Raewyn Dowsett went over all the dogs beautifully. Both made sure that the dogs were comfortable and happy in their environment whether on the table or the floor.
As the day went on it was obvious that the toy group and toy puppy groups were going to clash with the breed show. Our thanks to Norma Inglis and all the exhibitors for making sure that Selena made it in time to where she had to be. I have to admit that it was cutting it close to the wire at times. As I was in the puppy group with little Izzy (Pomeranian) it was all down to friends outside the breed and Pap exhibitors to keep us in the loop. Glenn and I are so grateful to you all.
For the breed show Mrs Inglis found her winners to be: DCC/BIS Kirsty and Evan Ryan and Kathleen Roosen’s Ch U Knock Me Off
My Feet Daydream Believers with Feorlig (imp Bel), BCC/ RBIS/ BPIS Irene and Glenn Robb’s Gleniren Daddy’s Starmaker.
RDCC Ann Borg’s Elendil Crusader (expertly handled by Sue Stanbury) congratulations Ann, RBCC Kirsty & Evan Ryan’s Ch Feorlig Smart Cookie JW, BVIS Connie Letch’s Conysluck Master Pip and BPHIS Sue Morrell’s Serenglade Leap Of Faith for Temelora. Last but not least Best Puppy Dog Hector’s Odyssey Elite Pillango At Taisett (imp).
So I think we all heaved a sigh of relief that we got to the end of the two shows in one piece.
Take care on the roads but most of all, enjoy your dogs and going to the shows. That’s what it is all about.
