26 September 2025 Papillon Breed Notes
Leeds Championship Show is always a very well run show. Under the leadership of Secretary Liz Stannard and her hard working committee, each year they always make sure that the exhibitors have the best day possible and with everything running smoothly. The weather was dry and sunny and there were a number of well stocked trade stands present.
It was a first time Challenge Certificate appointment for respected Toy Specialist judge Mea Kendal. The day went smoothly along with the help of her experienced stewards. The judge went over the dogs in a calm and patient manner ensuring that they were happy. She gave each exhibitor time to put their charges through their paces and get the very best from them.
The principal winners for the show were as follows. BCC/ BOB Glenn Robb’s Ch Gleniren Miracle Starmaker , DCC Sue Stanbury’s Elendil Crusader, BPIB Shirley Biggerstaff-Moore Yeldaeh’s Mr Hearwuud To Benzara. BVIB wasAnne Griffith’s Manawyddan Victor Hugo, BSBIB/ SBTGP3 Mrs V Fenn Webber Tarnock Pocket Scotch. The SBTGP judge was Mr Kevin Young. RDCC Helen Walsh’s Purepixie Red Admiral and RBCC Judi Meachell’s Gleniren I’adora At Suttonpark. Congratulations to everyone.
Ted Whitehill has given important news regarding BAD scheduled for 19th October
Unfortunately we have been advised that the hall that we had booked at Gretna will be closed for major refurbishment lasting around 6 – 8 weeks and consequently they have cancelled our booking. Apparently they were aware that this was in the pipeline but they have only just been told the dates of the works and this unfortunately coincides with our planned event.
We have tried to book another venue in the area but unfortunately we haven’t found anywhere suitable.
We have been left with no option but to cancel this seminar and we plan to reschedule for a later date once we know availability of speakers and those who will be assisting us with the seminar.
We can only apologise for the short notice and we will let you know once we have firm plans in place for the rescheduled event.
Something for you to take on board.
The Kennel Club Announce Changes to Partnership Show Regulations
From 1 January 2024 the Kennel Club Board agreed a recommendation to relax the regulations that prevented judges both officiating at one show and exhibiting at a partnership show for a two year period.
At its recent meeting the Shows Executive Committee agreed that this two year period was a success and therefore recommended the following amendment, which was subsequently approved by the Board.
The amendments will be in effect from 1 January 2026.
F(1)20.h
At partnership shows judges must not officiate at one show and enter or handle a dog for exhibition at the other show including exhibiting a different breed on another day to that which they are to judge. Partnership shows are defined as shows where the host club and other clubs share a venue and other facilities to allow exhibitors the opportunity to exhibit at each show.
F(1)30.a(10)
A dog may be disqualified by the Board from any award, whether an objection has been lodged or not, if proven amongst other things to have been:
(10) Entered for competition and/or handled in the ring by the judge a partnership show even if the class or classes are on another day of the show or the entry is for a different breed to that which the person is to judge.
The Kennel Club wish to remind judges that judging must take precedence over showing at partnership shows. While officiating as a judge, that judge can not take a break to exhibit.
The Kennel Club would also like to highlight the ‘Code of Best Practice for Judges’ which states that judges are expected to judge on the merits of the dog in competition and consider no other factors. It is important that judges and exhibitors are mindful of the perception of their actions to allow for a fair, yet competitive hobby.
The full Code of Best Practice for Judges can be found here:

It is with deep sadness to receive the news of the passing of Queenie Bruce’s husband Dave. Dave would attend many of the shows with Queenie and Amanda in years gone by. Dave was a lovely man who always had time to speak to everyone. Our thoughts and love go to the entire family at this very difficult time.
Take going to the shows and enjoy spending time with your beautiful four paws.
