30 August 2019 Breed Notes

Bucket and spades at the ready, Bournemouth here everyone goes. This is one journey I do not jump for joy, especially since the move to the newer venue making another 40 minutes travelling time each way. I can fully understand the caravan and motorhomes being out in force managing to combine Paignton, Bournemouth and of course the South of England Papillon Championship Show. Many exhibitors then travel onto to Welsh Kennel to make their showing holiday complete. The weather wasn’t kind at times with high winds at Bournemouth coupled with torrential rain and then the rain followed them up to WKC for most of the week. But that is something we have become accustomed to in our greener than green UK.

However I have to say the Bournemouth committee put their best feet forward to ensure that the show runs smoothly and all the needs of the exhibitor are catered for. With the high winds the first showing days were precarious for both the trade stands and caravan folk. Many awnings, trade stand and even the shows marquees took the brunt of the winds causing worrying moments and on the Monday for Toy day (which was much better weather) many of the trade stands by the Monday had held up their hands and said enough is enough.

Judging the breed for this show was toy specialist Mr Nigel Marsh, best known for competing successfully in Pugs. Mr Marsh arrived promptly looking smart and summery in a beige suit. Mr Marsh was very meticulous and gentle with the four paws, giving the exhibitor time to exhibit their charges in the best possible way. He went over the dogs on the table in a confident gentle manner always giving great consideration to both the dog and exhibitor. The principal winners for Bournemouth show were as follows; DCC/ BOB Pat Munn’s Ch Ringlands Timeless Gift. I believe his fourth cc so many congratulations. BCC Kirsty Miller and Evan Ryan’s Ch Feorlig Wake Up Maggie JW Sh.CM. RDCC Broughton and Sue Stanbury’s Inixia Follower Of Fashion, RBCC Pat and Brian Cox’s Ch Tricianbri Tuppence A Kiss JW, BV Karen Maskell’s Kazkell Thyme To Dream JW Sh.CM and SSB Mrs L Cox’s Tarnock Ruffles for Temelora

Bournemouth was a great show for the Gleniren show team (Irene & Glenn Robb) with Gleniren Who’s Your Daddy taking BPIB under Mr Marsh, TPGP1 under Toy Group judge Dr Geoffrey Curr and ultimately RBPIS under the BIS judge Mr Lee Cox. Miss H Wayman judged the Eukanuba Puppy Stakes and Jenson took runner up to the American Cocker for the final. All credit to Jenson as a ten month old youngster for keeping going. What an unbelievable day and our thanks to all the judges for making the day just perfect and the journey home seem a lot shorter! We finally arrived home at 1.30am a long day since our 3am start. The Scottish exhibitors must be made of iron as this on many occasions is their usual show day. All credit to every one of them.

An Open Show result for Cartmel Agricultural Show. Thank you to Debbie for sending me your fabulous day’s awards. B & D Harle’s BOB/ TGP1 Admanashan The Wanted At Debrilyn and then further success taking BPIS with their puppy Martika Eyecatcher. What a good day you had, very well done.

I am sure everyone is wishing Cathy Urquhart a speedy recovery after being rushed into hospital. A worrying time for Gordon but the last Facebook post I saw Cathy was now progressing well, much to everyone’s relief. We hope to see you on the show scene again very soon, sending love from us all.

Enjoy your showing and take time out to breathe and relax with the four paws.
