30 June 2023 – Papillon Breed Notes

Papillon exhibitors looked forward to a Scottish weekend of dog showing, with SKC being the first port of call. Here for the first time there was no benching, an experience that must have taken some getting used to throughout all the breed days.
For this show it was a first time giving Challenge Certificates for Toy specialist Lynn Crane, so I am sure an exciting day for her.
The judge went over the dogs very calmly and gently on the table making sure all the dogs were at ease. With the assistance of her two professional stewards the day motored along smoothly.
The principal winners were as follows: DCC/ BOB Kirsty and Evan Ryan and Kathleen Roseens Ch U Knock Me Off My Feet Daydream Believers With Feorlig. Best Puppy In Breed Irene and Glenn Robb’s Gleniren Oops I Did It Again Sunshoo who took a lovely TPGP4 under the Toy Puppy Group judge Ms G Marley. BCC Irene and Glenn Robb’s Ch Gleniren Daddy’s Starmaker. Best Veteran Karen and Steve Maskell’s Kazkell Robin The Limelight Jw Sh.Cm, Best Special Beginners Pam Taylor’s Pamhurst Capriccio At Kanetayl. RDCC Miriam Bougue’s Adelays Brilliant Buddy ( Imp Russia) with Pam Taylor handling. RBCC Kirsty Ryan, Kathleen Roosen and Jens Goessen’s Uppercut Daydream Believers With Feorlig (Imp Bel).

The next day everyone was off to Lawrie & Symington Agricultural Centre, Lanark for the Papillon Butterfly Dog Club Show of Scotland Championship Show. This is a lovely venue and one of the very few breed shows that has the true social atmosphere of the breed clubs we all knew so well. The hall is shared with the Scottish Pomeranian Club and it all works perfectly.
The committee works so hard to make sure everything is just right for all the exhibitors and it certainly shows all day. Club stall and bedding stall were present with a tombola thrown in for good measure.
For this show the judge was to be breed specialist Kirsten Stewart-Knight. Judging started on time and everything went along as smooth as clockwork.
BCC I believe a third and BIS went to Kirsty Ryan, Kathleen Roosen and Jens Goessen’s Uppercut Daydream Believers With Feorlig (Imp Bel). RBIS/BOS/ DCC Elaine Davidson’s CH/AM CH Elmaraine Chasing Rainbows. BPIS / BPB Irene and Glenn Robb’s Gleniren Oops I Did It Again Sunshoo. Best Veteran Adian Foyne’s Lafay Petite Etoile and Best Phalene In Show Mrs J Peterson and Mrs N Ridgeway’s Nanken Tuff Enuff At Senna-stedt.
RDCC Liz Anderson’s Northlyte Ring Of Brodgar with Mary Whitehill handling. RBCC Irene and Glenn Robb’s CH Gleniren Daddys Starmaker, Best Puppy Dog Mary Whitehill’s Amicae Top Of The Class.
Congratulations to everyone who achieved their goal at the show either taking a principal award home. Or maybe a placing with your four paws that made your heart feel proud. Each is as important as the other.

Enjoy the shows as they tumble along quickly from here. The hot weather will come, that is a promise!
Remember to keep your dogs hydrated in the hot weather, it takes a lot out of them and they can become sluggish when overheating. Selena is not the best of travellers and does the customary drooling saliva syndrome. Thus loses fluids which need to be replaced to make her feel on top form and full of energy. We have been using with great success the Doggyrade prebiotics and hydration drink range. She absolutely loves it and drinks that much easier and readily than plain water. I have found to put in the fridge the night before the show and with a cool ice block in the buttie box to keep it cold must be very refreshing. Very excited, this is a good product to have on standby for the summer months.

Take care when travelling to the shows.
