Critique

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge the breed. It was a beautiful day and the competitors appeared to be enjoying the well organised show. I was pleased to have a lovely selection of quality dogs to choose from.

VD (1) 1 Letch’s Conysluck Master Pip 13.5 years old, amazing coat for age, moved well, not a lot to criticise. Ageing fairly well and seems to have kept his younger spirit for the showring.

PD (2,1) 1 Stanbury’s Pinkmead Time Lord At Inixia Small tri colour very raw needs a lot of time to mature. Presented well, needs to gain weight and body which will come in time. Lovely jug handle tail, pretty head and correct coat.

JD (2) 1 Ryan & Roosens’ Ch U Knock Me Off My Feet Daydream Believers with Feorlig (Imp Bel) DCC and BOB. This dog absolutely caught my eye the minute he walked in the ring with his beautiful correct head with dark eye, good stop and mobile ears which he used throughout. His level topline and beautiful silky coat added to him moving freely with elegance and purpose making him hard to miss. Today he made his handler work for the win which just epitomises the happy, lively and sometimes very naughty temperament which is sometimes lacking in the breed. DCC and BOB. 2 Urqhart’s Blackpark Bastille Very mature for age, profuse coat with ample tail plume. Today he was a little over excited which made him slightly unsettled on the move, but he is only a puppy so has plenty of time to settle. He has a nice dark eye, large mobile ears, a good spring of rib and strong loin, nice hare feet and good rear angulation.

YD (1) 1 Barnett and Ryans’ Feorlig Silly Billy. Delicate little dog with ample coat although lacking in fringing. Topline not always level on the move but he settled more once his handler let him move more at his own pace. Fairly immature so needs time.

ND (2) 1 Stanbury’s Feorlig The Cheek Of It With Inixia. Young 14 month old totally out of coat but what was there was correct although sparce. Correct well arched tail, and overall a nice dog but really played handler up today making his movement unsettled. Lovely dark eye, large well fringed ears. He needs time to settle and come out of the Junior age. 2 Quinn’s Magic Sunrise Imperator Son (IMP LV). Smaller sized, neat outline, ample coat, good fringing, mobile ears well used, nice straight hocks, good forward reach. Close decision between first and second.

PGD (4) 1 Anderson’s Pappretty Grt Expectations. This is a very smart young dog with a beautifully balanced head, dark eye and cheeky expression. Large, rounded ears are well fringed and he uses them well. Good reach of neck, ample angulation front and rear, correct tail and level topline held throughout. He is a lovely dainty and elegant mover and very worthy of his RCC today. 2 Orchard’s Nightfire’s Be Unique In Style at Panspayon (Imp D). Slightly on the larger size but sound although still a little immature in head. Large round ears, good length of neck, correct coat, level topline, moved with purpose. Just pipped by first place.

LD (2) 1 Ockenden’s, Ringlands Oliver Twist. Correct coat and plenty of it. Good shoulders, with medium length of neck leading onto a level topline with lovely well plumed tail. Close decision between both dogs in this class. 2 Breen’s Amicae Highland Glen JW. Sweet head, lost topline on the move, played handler up which affected movement. Really good coat. Shorter in muzzle than first giving a slightly sweeter expression.

OD (2) 1 Robb’s Ch Gleniren Who’s Your Daddy. Well balanced outline with a profuse coat and in great condition. He is immaculately presented and a real showman for his handler. Moves with purpose and a level topline, well set ears with enough fringing but today he didn’t seem to want to use them to his best advantage. Would prefer slightly more arched tail. 2 Breen’s Kylecroft Quest. Smart little tri colour, good balanced head with ample reach of neck and good topline. He has ample coat, good angulation and a well plumed tail. I would prefer better front angulation to allow more reach.

VB (1) 1 Orchard’s Ringland Yoko’s Solo At Panspayon Sh.CM ShCEx VW. At the age of 7 she has a beautiful correct coat and is ageing gracefully. Her front and rear movement shows great drive and her enthusiasm for showing is lovely to see. Her head is well balanced, topline correct and she has lovely hare feet. I have judged this bitch before, and I was so pleased she chose to show well for her handler today.

MPB (2) 1 Orchard’s Panspayon Natasha Baby puppy full of energy and excitement like a true butterfly. Well proportioned head with good reach of neck. I would prefer slightly more front reach but rear movement nice with good tail set. Coat is correct and coming in. Time will tell how maturity affects her movement. 2 Wells & Brown’s Metamorphic Flyte. Very raw in comparison with first place and slightly less confident but such a baby. Love her overall balance and when she moved she had good reach front and back and correct balanced topline. Very close call between first and second place.

PB (2) 1 Robb’s Gleniren Daddy’s Starmaker. Another from this kennel who is a real showdog. Pretty balanced head with nice dark eye leading into good reach of neck and level topline. Well arched tail and ample coat immaculately presented. Today for me she was slightly unsettled on the move. Pleased to award BPIB and she also went on to win Best Puppy in Show. 2 Casey’s Melangel Lovely Lexi for Shamal. This is a very raw puppy with little coat although what was present was correct and in good condition. She has a sweet head with good proportions and balance. Correct tail set, good ears. Not so settled on the move and really needs time to mature for the topline to settle.

JB (1) 1 Anderson’s Pappretty Georgy Girl 13 month old very raw. Large mobile rounded ears with ample fringing and a sweet expression. She is a sound mover with good angulation and although a little excited she showed a good level topline and correctly positioned tail. Nice hair feet and straight hocks.

YB (1) 1 Gregory’s Tonkory Blossom. A very soundly made bitch, with everything is in proportion without exaggeration. Correct earset but I would prefer a softer head. Moved well but not in the best of coat today.

NB (1) 1 Orchard’s Panspayon Northern Lights. 8 month old puppy very raw but sound overall. She has a beautiful sweet expression and a nice head shape. Fringing and coat is coming in well and correctly. Level topline, ample neck, balanced overall and good angulation front and rear.

PGB (3) 1 Ryan’s Feorlig Say It With Flowers JW. Sweet head with a pretty expression and well presented. She is very raw and a little out of coat but still a good sound mover. I would like to see more body as I think it will give her a better overall balance, but I am sure this will come with time and maturity. Another who showed the true character of a naughty lively dainty papillon by really making her handler work for the win. 2 Giles’ Soleona Forever a Diamond. Lovely profuse silky coat, slightly sharper head with nice dark eye. Good tail set, well plumed, arched well over the back, level topline and ample angulation.

LB (4,1) 1 Wells & Brown’s Metamorphic Vista JW. This little red and white has lovely dark eyes held within a beautiful stunning and balanced head with the most exquisite expression. Her well rounded and fringed ears lead onto a super length of neck, correct front and rear angulation which allows her to move so freely and elegantly with good reach and drive both front and rear. Lovely arched tail set on a balanced topline which never faltered. I was so pleased to be able to award her BCC and I hope it won’t be long before she gets her crowning 3rd. 2 Cox’s Briar Rose for Ringland. Another lovely bitch slightly heavier set than first. Again, a nice mover, well balanced overall and a sweet head. Large well plumed ears, ample reach of neck, good angulation, correct coat and hare feet.

OB (3) 1 Ryan’s Ch Feorlig Smart Cookie JW. A very dainty and elegant bitch who never faltered in the ring. She has large, mobile well fringed ears with a beautiful dark eye and an alert expression. Under her ample correct silky coat is a balanced bitch with great angulation front and rear which allows her to flow elegantly around the ring with purpose and drive whilst maintaining a super level topline and lovely well fringed tail. Pleased to award RBCC. 2 Gregory’s Tonkory For My Sins. This smaller bitch was in tough competition today. She lacks fringing in comparison to first and I would prefer a longer muzzle to soften the head. She is well balanced overall and is another good mover but just didn’t have the finish or angulation of first place.
