Critique
I would like to thank the Society for asking me to judge at their Championship show. It was well run and a pleasant reception on arrival. I would also like to thank the exhibitors for a good entry and supporting myself and the show. I was very pleased with my principle winners and with my BOB sent through to the Group. Overall there seems to be a large number of dogs that are lacking in body and muscletone. A toy breed may be of a smaller structure but this does not mean they should not have no body to the degree of feeling rather ‘toast rack’ like and lacking in muscletone especially on their hindquarters. This proves to me either a lack of exercise or free running. Dainty and pretty also needs good nutrition and good substance. I do feel the breed is creeping very much to the top end of the standard and we need to be mindful of this for the where the future of the breed is heading. 8-11 inches is stated in our breed standard and when 8-9 inches becomes a minority they begin to look too small/wrong, which they are not and in some cases it is some who are too tall. Lets nurture the true dainty butterfly dog that we all know and love.
VD (6, 1) 1 Stanbury’s Inixia Delightful Dan JW ShCM. This lovely R/s/w veteran male entered the ring with pure ring presence. He excelled in showmanship and movement. He is sound in both conformation and on the move and all is completed with a pleasing head piece. Delighted to award him Best Veteran and see him go on to gain Veteran Group 2. 2 Thompson & Austin’s Jhanakia Highland Destiny. Another quality r/w veteran dog. In good coat and enjoying his day. Moved out with style and showed well for his handler. 3 Melvin & Cox’s Tricianbri Wish Beaune At Shalandar ShCM.
MPD (4, 1) 1 Whitehill & Urwin’s Paparottsie Walk The Walk. Tricolour who is dainty in size and structure. Pretty headpiece that followed on to a good overall construction. Moved well. I would prefer a nice straight length of tail as his tail did curl back on itself. Showed well today to take the class. 2 Reid’s Phylcher Heartbreaker. R/s/w puppy who had a lot to like about him. I personally would like more neck on this boy to complete his head carriage on the move and on the stand. He did, however, still show and move out well. Pleasing head which should come in and develop more with maturity. 3 Patrick’s Volpecula Tesseract.
PD (4) 1 Waller’s Lilnrose I’m A Lovebug. Pretty R/s/w male who showed well. He has a lot to like and when he calms down on the move he does move a lot better. Pretty head and lovely ear set to complete the picture. Good construction and overall balance. Moved well, however, I would like less restriction through the front movement to become more free flowing. 2 Boughton & Stanbury’s Inixia Follower Of Fashion TAF. B/w male who again loves the showring. He is of a larger size to first and didn’t quite have the head of the winner. Overall balance of this dog was good and he was pleasing to go over. Just needed to calm down on the move. 3 Diprose’s Lilacrose Inspired By You.
JD (11, 2) 1 Williams’ Ringlands If Wishes Came True For Amyjay. R/s/w who has a lot of qualities to like. His headpiece is pleasing and has large abundant ears. Overall balance of this dog is good and he moves out well in both front and rear. Lovely tail set carried high over the back and fantastic plume. I would prefer him a tad smaller but today he sparkled in the class. 2 King’s Skyvana Tom Thumb Sarasha. Tricolour male. Shows well for his handler and she gets the best out of him. Good head, dark eye and well placed ears. Overall construction was good and his movement was precise today. He lacked in the sparkle of one on the last look around to take the class. 3 Whitehill & Urwin’s Paparottsie Heart Beats At Amicae.
GD (5) 1 Morrell’s Serenglade Leap Of Faith For Temelora. Phalene b/w male. Sweet boy with correct ear placement. His head is pleasing and complimented by that lovely dark eye that this breed should have. He really pulls together on the move as he drives around the ring showing off his true construction and sound movement. 2 Stanbury’s Angullyon Trading Secrets With Inixia. R/s/w who has a pretty head and well fringed ears. Slightly lacking in coat on the day. Enjoyed his day today but could have been more settled on the move. 3 Sparkes’ Pinkmead Twistin Time.
PGD (9, 2) 1 Christensen’s Tresor’s Kings Valiant Lancelot. This tricolour male excels in glamour helped by the pristine grooming from his handler. His fringes framed his pleasing headpiece. His coat was gleaming and whiter than white. He moved well around the ring both side profile, front and rear. He demanded to win this class today. Pushed hard for the CC but today was awarded the RCC. 2 Phillips’ Manawyddan Hamish Maccunn. This well balanced r/w male has so much to like about him. His overall shape and balance can not be denied even from seeing him at the first glance. He was a pleasure to go over and watch on the move. 3 Petty’s Jansanleis He’s A Belter At Goldenmist.
LD (5 1) 1 Roberts & Smith’s Jalatemme Shazam At Rayol. Tricolour male who I have to say is not the easiest to handle but aside of this he excelled in quality. He has a pretty head of good proportions with a good rise and stop to length of muzzle. Lovely ear set framed with pleasing fringing. He is well constructed under his well groomed coat and moved freely around the ring. 2 Morrell’s Temelora Let It Be Magic JW. R/s/w male. Again a lot to like about this boy but just lacked the sparkle of the winner. He moved well and was pleasing to go over on the table. I would just like a slightly higher carried tail over the back to complete the picture. 3 Foynes & May’sLafay Petite Etoile JW.
OD (7, 2) 1 Morrell’s Temelora Bobby Dazzler JW. B/w male who triumphed today. He was in good coat and showed fantastically. His head piece was pleasing to the eye and again finished by large ears set correctly and fringed well to finish the picture. He was a pleasure to go over on the table with level topline, good spring of rib, nice length of loin and good front and rear placement. Moved well around the ring and I was pleased to award him the CC. 2 Waters’ Sweetbriar Sticks An Stones JW.
Tricolour male who has a pretty head piece and so much to like. He moves well around the ring free flowing and again catches the eye on both the move and on standing. 3 Thompson & Austin’s Melangel Highland Vogue At Jhanakia.
VB (3, 1) 1 Tidmarsh’s Creliatown Royal Mosaic. This veteran girl thoroughly enjoyed her day today. She marched around the ring as if to say ‘this is my moment’ and demanded the limelight in this class. 2 Tidmarsh’s Royal Moonbeam For Creliatown. Again another old girl that enjoyed her day too. It is such a pleasure to watch these ‘young at heart’ butterflies enjoying their day in the ring and showing every step of the way.
MPB (2, 1) 1 Cox’s Denemore Juniper Berrie At Tricianbri. Pretty black masked r/s/w baby. Very raw but very pleasing to the eye on entering the ring. She has a pleasing headpiece and large ears that are carried correctly. Overall balance is good and she moved around the ring with ease and a spring of joy in her step.
PB (7, 1) 1 Langdon’s Shadowknight Ebony Rose Of Skyvana. B/w bitch who excels on the move. She lacks the sparkle on the stand which I know her handler works hard to get her attention but on the move she really does pull it together. Slightly longer in muzzle than I would like but everything else about her head piece I liked. Well set ears and fringing coming. Good construction and a lovely plume to finish the outline on the stand and on the move. Pleased to award her BPIB. 2 Fulton’s Milbu Warlock At Kenf. B/w who pushed the winner all the way. She is slightly longer than the winner but has a lot to like about her also. Nice head and good stop and rise. Well set front and rear, pleasing construction and moved well around the ring with no restriction. 3 Gregory’s Stagedoor Stripper TAF.
JB (6) 1 Hill’s Caraideas Rhapsody In Blue. Pretty r/s/w girl of a smaller type. There is a lot to like about this bitch and she stood out in this class. She has a pretty head of good proportions with a nice round dark eye. Good straight from and rear and is pleasing to go over on the table. Moved well around the ring although I would like a little more drive but overall she is a lovely bitch. 2 Davidson’s Cintarshe Red Amethyst. R/s/w bitch who enjoyed her day out. Very outgoing and sometimes just needed to calm down a tad on the move. She was pleasing to go over and watch on the move just preferred the overall picture and daintiness combined with substance of the winner. 3 Stanbury’s Inixia Potty Dotty.
GB (9 1) 1 Sparkes’ Pinkmead Delightful Eve. B/w Phalene. Pretty head which can sometimes be misled by a wide blaze. Good stop, rise and muzzle length and pretty eye to finish the headpiece. Well set ears to compliment this moth. She has a level topline and good construction and moved out well around the ring to take this class. 2 Stanbury’s Inixia Bella Bella. Dark r/s/w who likes to be mischievous. She is a naughty one. She loved her day out and was good when she had her calm moments, you couldn’t help but smile at her. Well set ears and good head piece. She stood, moved and showed well when calm. 3 Morrell’s Temelora Adele.
PGB (3, 1) 1 Orchard’s Semicvetik Dayana Devine Panspayon (Imp). Phalene very dark r/s/w. Well set ears and good headpiece. I would like a more refined muzzle and better stop but overall her head was pleasant. Good construction overall and moved well around the ring. 2 Headley’s Farleybane Firefly At Lafford. R/s/w who overall had a good balanced construction. She moved well and enjoyed her day with a spring in her step.
LB (7) 1 Williams’ Sunlight Vision Of Ringlands. R/s/w bitch who took the limelight when she entered the ring. With glamour, presentation and type. She has the most glorious fringing and when using her ears properly which was challenging in this venue she became the true butterfly in motion. Her balance and construction is fantastic and her head piece is pleasing. Yes I would like a slightly shorter muzzle but every other quality attribute that she has both in construction, movement and type certainly outweighed this and for me she was my star of the day. CC & BOB. I was later reminded that I had previously awarded her BPIS and RCC at 6 months old. I was pleased to also hear that she gained her third CC today. 2 Cox’s Tricianbri Tuppence A Kiss JW. R/s/w bitch who is full of quality also. She has a pretty head piece and refined muzzle, dark eye and well set ears. Her construction is good and she moves out well around the ring. She was unfortunate to meet todays winner in this class. 3 Lee’s Lafford Penny Black.
OB (5, 2) 1 Deamer’s Grinsdales Sweet Caroline At Bankshill. R/s/w who has so much quality. She has a lovely head that has good proportions and finished with well set ears dripping in fringing to frame the picture. She scores well on construction and moved out well in both front and behind as well as going around the ring but slightly lacking in coat on the day. Unfortunately today she lacked in sparkle and showmanship which is the icing on the cake, but was pleased to award her the RCC. 2 Milroy, Victor & McGlaughlin’s Farleysbane Frilly Filly From Farthinghall ShCM. Tricolour who showed well for her handler. She is pleasing to go over on the table and had some nice attributes. Her handler showed her well on the day. She moved well both in front and behind but today I preferred the head and overall quality of the winner 3 Morris & Langton’s Rozamie Fleur Rouge For Jennobar.
