Critique
My sincere thanks to Crufts Chairman Tom Mather and the Crufts judges committee for inviting me for the second year running, this year to officiate Papillon, a breed I have been involved in for over 35 years and counting. Judging your own breed is a very special occasion any time, however extra special at Crufts, gracing the green carpet from the other side as we have had many memorable wins over the years. My heartfelt gratitude to all the exhibitors for your wonderful entry of dogs today.
While my entry was large, the depth of quality throughout classes was lacking very mixed types and quality. Our breed standard calls for ‘Dainty, well-balanced, little dog’, going through the classes this was sometimes difficult to find, with the lack of balance, as a result of short legs, while in some instances with heavier in bone than I would like, this completely detracted from elegant profile and silhouettes we expect to see in our breed. The two Open classes were my highlight of the day with such depth of quality typical Papillon characteristics which made decisions very difficult. I was really happy with my principle winners and most class winners also.
