Critique
My thanks to the Committee for inviting me to judge one of my favourite breeds, thank you to the exhibitors for allowing me the privilege of judging your dogs and finally to my two stewards for keeping the ring running smoothly. I was delighted with the overall quality and pleased to say that I found nothing to be alarmed at in our breed, some slightly flat and/or low set tails and a handful of wavy coats, nothing that can’t be improved with careful breeding choices. Temperaments were on the whole good, some perhaps a little shy when it came to carrying tails over the back and the odd grumble when it came to being handled on the table. Otherwise I feel the future is bright for our butterflies and moths.
MPD (7, 1) 1st Slater & Kewley’s Magic Sunrise Ace Ventura (Imp LVA): A smart alert Tri youngster, finely tapered muzzle, good bite and bright sparkling eye. Good large ears, medium neck into level topline, silky coat, fine bone, overall fine and dainty with a well balanced profile, moved well. 2 Austin & Thompson’s Melangel Highland By Design at Jhanakai: Smart B/W, balanced head, good bite, dark eye, mobile ears, silky textured coat, moved well. 3 Headley’s Yeldeah Simply Red.
PD (5, 2)1 Stanbury’s Inixia Ever Ready Eddie: Stunning R/S/W youngster, muzzle finely tapered, well defined stop, well placed and mobile ears, medium sized dark eye, medium neck into good shoulders, level topline, well sprung ribs, tail nicely arched and a fine silky coat, the red being deep and rich. Positive and free flowing in movement on lovely hare feet. Best Puppy. 2 Boughton & Stanbury’s Inixia Dressed To Kill TAF:B/W litter brother to 1, similar to the winner with an appealing head and expression, mobile ears and a good silky coat. Moved well and true although not quite the sparkle of his brother. 3 Milroy’s Farthinghall Ever Faiths.
JD (5) 1 Urquhart’s Blackpark Tim: Loved the head on this R/S/W boy, fine muzzle and dark eye, well placed and mobile ears, medium neck into good shoulders and well sprung ribs. Level topline and well carried arched tail with good plume. Fine boned and good hare feet. A good quantity of fine silky coat, moved well in profile with a typically correct gait. 2 Morton’s Ablazzor King Of Spades: Another fine example this Tri has lovely head properties, mobile ears and a nice dark eye. Fine bone and lovely hare feet, level topline and a covering of a fine silky coat. Once settled moved well although could be easily distracted. 3 Bruce & Bruce Jackson’s Tijuana Mayhem. Res Stanbury – Inixia Fully Charged.
YD (4, 1) 1 Bruce & Bruce Jackson’s Tijuana Double Trouble: R/S/W, up to size whilst maintaining a balance, well proportioned head properties, alert expression, dark eye, fine muzzle and good bite. OD (7, 1) 1 Anderson’s Ch Frasermar Storm In The Snow: This stunning Tri immediately caught my eye as he entered the ring. Handling him reinforced my initial impression. Well marked classic head, fine muzzle, correct bite and defined stop, dark sparkling eye, alert expression and large mobile ears placed at 450 and well fringed. A medium neck into well sloped shoulders leading to well sprung ribs, a level topline and firm loin. All topped off with an exquisite silky coat, an arched and well plumed tail to complete the image. His description can be lifted straight from the page of the Breed Standard. Moved with style and panache for the DCC & BOB also delighted to see he was shortlisted in the Group. 2 Lee-Slater’s Rozamie Monsieur Phillipe: Another lovely Tri with a refined head, fine muzzle, good bite and dark expressive eye.
