Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club Open Show 2015

07 November 2015
Judge: Mr Brian Lees

My thanks to the Committee of this well respected Club for inviting me to judge at their Open Show and for the warm welcome I received. Thank you also to the exhibitors for their enTries and the sportsmanlike manner in which they accepted my decisions.

I found the males to be more consistent to the breed standard than the females, a small number need to pay more attention to keeping teeth clean and a few are losing sight of what constitutes the silky single coat. Fine and dainty is also absent in a few of the exhibits but having said this, the spirit of the Butterfly is still alive and many today were active and alert as one should be, always on the move and bordering on the naughty in some cases. I must give a credit to the Veterans, some, as might be expected, have several missing teeth but there were others that were less afflicted in this department and found themselves with higher placings as a result. I found some front feet tending to splay out, some lighter eyes, a few low set tails and a few too many ‘flatter tails’ – and there was even one with a strange twist in the tail.
