Critique

Amazing 100% turnout save for the “Amicae” Whitehills’ dramatic en route accident that we were all relieved to learn they & their Papillons had survived to win another day! So that made 83 “hands on” & for some real competition & thankfully an incomparable steward who kept all skillfully in order. The breed continues to be blessed with such longstanding, dedicated, breeders sharing quality stock with the next generation whilst making wise imports to enhance the genepool, given modern accessibility, in a breed that is so strong worldwide. The only breed specific points that troubled me were first the number of ultra short, blunt muzzles as opposed to it being “finely pointed” & “abruptly finer” than the skull & to account for approx “one third” of the entire length of the head and second the rounded, trimmed feet as opposed to fine & “hare- like” with “tufts” extending far beyond. Enough said as you know who you are!

MPD (2,1) 1 Stanmore’s Altaya Midwinter Moon. 6m b/w & the rawest of babies yet so self-assured so as to make use of his ears at one end & to carry his tail so well at the other; has good basic conformation inbetween with a good neckline. Just needs to mature on & to firm in front.

PD (5) 1st: Davidson-Poston’s Sky Butterfly Elven Cron Prince Spinillons (Imp Rus) Tri turning 12m the next day & beautifully matured & secure with nothing particularly worth criticising as yet; beautifully fringed & well set ears; round, dark eye; well angulated; level; ex tail carriage; true moving & learning the ropes well; one to watch. 2 Langdon’s Skyvana Daredevil. R/s/w who hit 12m on Day1 of show; such quality & refinement & here was the correctly rather low placed eye & finely pointed muzzle; can still just firm at pastern & carry some more body condition; beautifully light action; also one to watch as he emerges from this teenage stage. 3 Kent’s Moshu Golden Lovelock

JD (7,0) 1 Ryan & Roosens’ U Knock Me Off My Feet Daydream Believers with Feorlig (Imp Bel). 16m striking tri who has justifiably made his presence felt & with so much to offer as a sire; great shape & structure; beautifully bodied & conditioned; mobile, rounded ears correctly placed; fine muzzle; prefer darker eye & the desirability of an actual blaze; fairly long with good neck & topline; well angulated; what an ex rear action; just a tad proud at elbow coming on; his outstanding qualities far outweighed any “gripes” as recognised by me certifying him of Ch quality & only beaten by one bred by this Exh! Reserve Dog CC & JG2 2 Urquhart’s Blackpark Bastille 10m r/w ; intense quality & refinement & so parallel in his light, free-flowing action on hare feet; finely muzzled, albeit to be better defined in stop; has the eye & the ears; has the neck & the topline; correct bodylength; great tail carriage; outstanding flowing, silky coat; a self-assured, stylish youngster of considerable potential. BPD. 3: Orchard’s Nightfire’s Be Unique in Style at Panspayon (Imp Deu)

YD (3) 1 S Daredevil. 2 Stanbury’s Feorlig The Cheek of It with Inixia. 15m b/w half-bro to the above & the catalogue confirms that breeder co-operation; has so much to commend him and was just significantly lacking in body condition as he discovers “the ladies”;such a lovely, fine headpiece as so correct in skull, eye, ear & muzzle; correct bodylength; ex structure; can still settle in front but maturity will sort; one sure to assert his claim 3 Turner’s Feyetas Mighty Atom

GD (3,0) 1 Ryan & Barnett’s Feorlig Silly Billy. Not another one! Litter brother of F The Cheek Of It; r/s/w; hardly surprising then that loved all about him; has that correctly placed low eye; enviable ears; good neck & angles; good conformation; flowing, silky coat; so light & true moving on hare feet so as to make a classy youngster with an assured future. 2 Maskell & Waller’s Kazkell Cracker Joke. 13m b/w & simply less forward in development; here was the abruptly finer muzzle of correct length & hence the desired stop; well put together & v ongoing to give an alert bearing & light action; v promising. 3 Quinn’s Magic Sunrise Imperator Son (Imp Lv).

PGD (4) 1 Stanbury’s Inixia Made By Design. 2.5yrs b/w; typical of decades of consistent line breeding; sheer quality; beautifully placed & fringed ears, albeit prefer eye a tad larger; ex structure; correct bodylength & balance; well sprung rib; alert carriage & moved with hare-footed accuracy. 2 : Borg‘s Elendil Crusader. 2.5yrs b/w; excelled in soundness on the v best of tufted hare feet; beautifully bodied; ex tail carriage; was just a touch unsure following the enforced Covid break & prefer a finer muzzle. 3 Maskell & Waller’s Lilnrose I’m in The Limelight With Kazkell

LD (7,0) 1 Griffiths’ Manawyddan Harryhare. 3yrs b/w; such a typical Butterfly of utmost quality; so good in skull & eye with narrow blaze; well placed & fringed ears; good conformation throughout; good in rib & body length lovely to watch his true, free-flowing, light action; well able to state his claim for top honours as he is surely coming to his best. 2 : Ockenden’s Ringlands Oliver Twist. 4.5yrs r/w/s; close up & with so many breed specific qualities; lovely low placed, round eye; beautifully placed & fringed ears; good in rib with loin of good length; hare footed; responded well to a handler to assist her owner; in super coat & well presented; another one capable of top winning. 3 Austin & Thompson’s Polaris Plyus Juvenal at Jhanakia (Imp Rus)

OD (10,1) 1 Malcolm’s Ch Feorlig It Must’ve Been Love 5,5yrs r/s/w & a new one on me but was a natural progression of the Rozamie influence in several winners thus far, being 100% Rozamie; took my eye immediately as he represented all I was looking for in classic breed type & balance; glorious headpiece with desired stop & muzzle; enviable ears; quality fine, silky coat; so well bodied; ex tail carriage; fringed hare feet; took it all up a notch when he outmoved the rest that was parallel & ground covering; so congrats to the breeder for producing the top male & owning the runner-up! Dog CC 2 Munn’s Ch Ringland Timeless Gift. 5.5yrs r/s/w; one of those representing decades of consistent top breeding & well able to press his case; sheer class; the essence of refinement through both head & body; good neck & length of backline; ex tail carriage; light but positive on the move; close up indeed & delighted to have the chance to go over him. 3 Morrell’s Serenglade Leap of Faith for Temelora

SpBegD (1) 1 M Golden Lovelock, This typy 9m r/w had a good run inc 3rd in PD & VHC in LD, being pretty much entered right through ; promising baby with fabulous eye & ear; nicely put together; they grew as a team & got the best cheer when taking Best Spec Beginner. Congrats & keep at it!

Vet (6,0) 1 : Davidson-Poston’s Ch/ir/nl/int Ch Spinillons Rebel Rowser JW ShCM Cw14 VW ShCEx11yrs b/w I have been privileged to judge at various stages of his career & is apparently ageless; such type; such balance; such stylish soundness; simply “”screams” Papillon. BVIB. 2 Orchard’s Ringland Yoko’s Solo at Panspayon ShCM ShCEx VW. 7.5yrs r/s/w ; classy; built on such quality lines being well bodied yet still refined; excels in head with those low placed dark eyes; tufted hare feet; ex neck & topline; lovely mover as expected being the relative “kid on the block”. 3 Malcolm’s Petitchiens Moonbeam VW

Gd CDS D/B (1) 1 : Smith’s Tarnock Kissed by The Stars. 2.5yrs b/w d who was Res in PGD; relatively heavy in build & thick in muzzle; shown in fabulous coat & has an outgoing personality.

SpBegB (1,0) 1 Last’s Lilacrose Magic Mya, Typy17m; finely pointed muzzle accentuating her well defined stop; scores in eye & ear; good in rib; level; moved out light & sound on fringed hair feet; just has some maturing to do.

MPB (8,1) 1 Morrell’s Athene vom Schwabenhof. 8m Phalene that made me think “Wow”; how rare is it to have two such topping a class; such an outstanding structure; such a glorious head of refinement & well defined stop; absolutely sound & so well bodied already to give a positive, parallel, unrestricted gait; exceptionally promising. 2 Morrell’s Aurora vom Schwabenhof. Litter sister & pretty much identical; just that bit “ broodier” & that’s why she is such a wise investment; be interesting to compare them as they mature on. 3 Woodcock’s Ookiimimi Quaint and Quirky

PB (4) 1 Robb’s Gleniren Daddy’s Starmaker. 9m r/s/w; breathtaking; so feminine; so secure in her structure; so footsure; so balanced; so beautifully conditioned & turned out; lovely head & dark, round, low eye; defined stop; ideal body shape; every time she came to a halt she gave an arresting outline; every time she moved she showed a light, free-flowing action; in the challenge I simply pulled out the two top contenders being she & OB; Bitch CC ( her 3rd) & BOB; BPIB; BPIG. I note that she has now progressed to her 4th CC. 2 Orchard’s Panspayon Northern Lights 8m r/w showing that exciting raw promise; scored in skull, stop & muzzle; good eye; good to go over; level; good tailset; lovely light, sound movement; her day will come. 3 Griffiths’ Manawyddan To A Wild Rose

JB (4) 1 : Lee-Slater’s Graycaz Pap Reeka 16m r/w; the best named; so feminine; constructed on quality lines; has that desired rather low placed eye; correct bodylength; carried herself so well; absolutely foot perfect; one to watch. 2 Mann’s Melangel Luscious Lola. 11m r/w learning the ropes as evidently only been with her handler in last 12hrs; super feminine; fine muzzle; level & of correct body length; perfectly good structure & plenty of promise as this team come together. 3 Lee-Slater’s Graycaz Frenchmans Can Can

YB (4,1) 1 : Gregory’s Tonkory Blossom. 19m tri; so feminine with such quality & refinement with ideal length of fine muzzle; ex conformation & balance; ex neck & level topline with a good spring of rib; ex tailset & carriage; lovely light, flowing, parallel action; will surely be making her presence felt as she leaves this teenage phase behind. 2 Lee-Slater & Kewley’s Magic Sunrise Natalia (Imp Lva). 19m r/w; a quality b. with the most lovely eye & ear to give a super expression; lovely bodylines if just a touch heavy that is all simply part of the maturing process into adulthood; she was as foot perfect as she was ground covering as she circuited; completed a strong team of young females to enhance the Graycaz name. 3 L Magic Mya

GB (3) 1 Ryan’s Feorlig Say It with Flowers JW. R/s/w litter sister of 2nd in YD; nothing worth criticising on this showing & with an assured future if she simply develops along these same lines; full of breed type & femininity; ex eye, duly low placed; ears well placed & fringed; has the structure; has the refinement; has that light, sound step that flows along; obviously one to watch. 2 Nash’s Ookiimimi Pirouette. 2yrs r/s/w; pretty headed & well carried; quality outline; correct bodylength; level with a good spring of rib; light moving but still a little insecure in front. 3 Geary’s Taliesyn Black Azalea

PGB (4) 1 Giles’ Soleona Forever A Diamond. 2.5yrs r/s/w; beautifully placed & used ears if a touch small in eye & relatively short in muzzle; impressive, tufted hare feet; she is well made overall & is truly excellent on the move that kept her ahead. 2 Bull’s Chrysalis Star of The Storm 2yrs tri; so typical in headpiece with beautifully placed ears; good spring of rib; correct bodylength; ex tail carriage; just carrying a bit of extra post- lockdown condition but that is merely temporary. 3 Jury’s Melangel Gaily Georgia at Lindanwaye

LB (10) 1 Cox’s Briar Rose for Ringland. 3yrs tri of outstanding breed type; quality outline; enviable ear fringing & placement; good in neck & angulation fore & aft; correct bodylength; fine, silky coat so well turned out; moved with style & freedom as she gaited so well; well able to take on the best on her own terms. 2 Bull’s Chrysalis The Show Must Go On. Tri litter sister of 2nd in PGB & also just carrying some extra condition; full of type; scored in ears & muzzle; of good conformation that was put to good use on the move where she was soundly parallel. 3 Humphrey’s Lilnrose Butterfly Kisses for Gloynbyw

OB (7) 1 Ryan’s Ch Feorlig Smart Cookie JW. 4yrs r/s/w with both a classic head, with its abruptly finer muzzle than skull, and a classic body shape of correct length & balance; lovely eye & ears; good neck & topline; such a fine, silky coat so well presented; both a good neckline & tail carriage; hare feet; in the final analysis, against the CC winner, she was just less clean when coming on. Others will still add to her worthy tally as the issue is simply “on the day”. Reserve Bitch CC 2 Orchard’s Ch Panspayon Jewel of The Nile. 2yrs r/s/w; also of utmost quality & close up; beautiful facial features; rounded skull; fabulous, relatively low placed, eye; large, mobile ears; v well bodied with good spring of rib; fine bone; hare feet; sound & light on the move with a typical outline; absolutely of Ch quality. 3 Davidson-Poston’s Spinillons Rebelling
