Critique
My sincere thanks to the exhibitors who travelled to Builth, this venue is not always the easiest to get to for many people whether you live north or south.
The WKC committee should be very proud of themselves as the show ran like a well oiled clock with members of the committee always on hand to help. The ring was spacious and surprisingly no rain for most of the day, that is until OD when the heavens opened, causing a hell of a racket on the roof. So much so, I postponed the class until the noise had ceased. Unfortunately, this did have an effect and upset some of the major contenders and that was a shame.
In general I was pleased. Previously viewing from the ringside either, a glorious coat, long plume or long fringing can hide what I would have ideally preferred. Unfortunately in some cases exhibits were far too thin and more body weight with muscle tone would be advantageous, without this, freedom of movement may be hampered and when stood, the dog cannot stand out from itself. This did affect my thoughts for class placements and principal awards. A well respected exhibitor some 20 years plus years ago said to me “Remember, a dog has to have body and substance without this it cannot work to its full capacity. That has stayed with me and has been my bench mark. Upright shoulders appeared more times than I would care to like, causing high stepping front movement. The Papillon should be free flowing and glide across the floor, not jump up and down as if on a trampoline. The completed picture is in stand, when the dog stands four square out from itself and says’ look at me’. A straight stifle (of which there are many) instead of a well turned stifle does not allow the dog to do so and gives the appearance of being unbalanced. Short in upper arm and not having an adequate neck line is a recipe for an unfortunate stance.
Coat condition and presentation was good in most cases but table training might be improved to settle the exhibits. Pretty, dainty butterflies were my goal for my WKC judging experience.
I thoroughly enjoyed the day and thank you for the opportunity to go over your beloved Papillons and Phalenes.

1st: STANBURY Mrs S Inixia Delightful Dan JW Sh.CM 7 year R/S/W. In superb condition, super muscle tone, always alert and attentive. Good expressive eye and ear placement. Lovely depth of ribcage and carried top line well at all times. Moving out across the ring freely and fluently. He was just full of himself and on the go all the time. BV
2nd: THOMPSON, Mrs J & AUSTIN Mrs S Jhanakia Highland Destiny. Unfortunate to meet 1st as this 10yr R/S/W is a credit to the owners. In great condition, always fully attentive to his handler. In good coat and loved the straight front.
Class 250 MPD (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: WHITEHILL, Mrs M & URWIN Mrs P Paparottsie Walk The Walk. 6m Tri. Smaller, fine and dainty. In good coat for age and coped well with the surroundings for a baby. Dark expressive eye with pleasing head shape. I am sure will gain confidence with a few shows under his belt.
2nd: REID Mr I Phylcher Heartbreaker 6m R/S/W Rangier than 1st. and because of this at present not quite the completed picture. Good body standing with a straight front. Super mouth and ear shape, just needs confidence.
Class PD (3 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: TAYLOR Miss P Adnamashan Craiglang For Pamhurst. 11m B/W Larger type. Moved well carrying top line at all times. Correct shoulder placement and deep rib. Good body with muscle tone. Shown in lovely coat with well shaped ears and fringing. Perhaps would have preferred a deeper stop and rise. Handled well, on the day.
2nd: BOUGHTON, Mrs A & STANBURY Mrs S Inixia Follower Of Fashion TAF 9m B/W Dark expressive eye and very attentive to handler. Although had good muscle tone just needs to body up, I am sure this will come in the months to come. Certainly a live wire and kept handler on their toes!
3rd: WALLER Miss M C Lilnrose I’m A Lovebug
Class JD (5 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: WILLIAMS Mrs A J Ringland If Wishes Came True For Amyjay. 12m R.S/W on the upper height scale. Pleasing symmetrical head markings with dark, expressive rounded eyes, correct flanged ear shape with fringing. Correct dentition. Depth of rib and shoulder placement good, stood square.
2nd: WHITEHILL, Mrs M & URWIN Mrs P Paparottsie Heart Beats At Amicae 15m B/W dark eye and rims, so important for a black and white. Carried top line on the move but would have preferred less high stepping movement.
3rd: WILKINSON Mrs S M Lafford Inspector Morse In Poppywood
Class ND (4 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: MUNN Mrs P Ringlands Timeless Gift
12m R/S/W. Full of life and energy, just needs to settle in his paws a little. Very eye catching with symmetrical head markings with correct ear placement and fringing. Dark pigment, this makes such a difference. On the move carried his top line well, showing true movement across the ground with elegant neckline. Shown in good coat.
2nd: SPARKES Mrs V A Pinkmead Twistin Time
23m R/S/W Phalene. Stood square and moved well. This boy has a good body and very all together. Pleasing neckline which is often misunderstood for a Phalene. Correct ear placement. Handled well.
3rd: MORRELL Mrs S Serenglade Leap Of Faith For Temelora

1st: MORRELL Mrs S Purepixie Swish And Flick 2yr B/W. What a happy little showman in pristine coat quality. Nicely set shoulders with straight front, moving freely across floor. Pretty head shape with expressive dark eye. There is a lot to like about this little one.
2nd: PATRICK Miss E B Volpecula Handsome Is. Smaller 19m old. Sweet expressive dark eye with pretty head markings, correct head ratios with stop and rise. Lovely ear fringing. Moved well today.
3rd: THOMPSON, Mrs J & AUSTIN Mrs S Melangel Highland Vogue At Jhanakia
Class 256 OD (10 Entries) Abs: 1 A lovely class of quality exhibits. Unfortunately the heavy rain paid its price with some exhibits not showing at their best.
1st: MUNN Mrs P Smileline Silenzio Sunshine Garsiv 5yr R/S/W. I judged this dog when it was a youngster and awarded the RDCC. My opinion has not changed. Today I could not fault this dog for its stance. Standing square at all times showing a lovely turn of stifle and straight front. He carried his top line beautifully around the ring showing drive helped by his muscle tone. He has the prettiest of heads with symmetrical head markings and defined muzzle. A super sized, dainty butterfly, in good coat with correct placement of tail and plume. Delighted to award the DCC /BOB
2nd: SHARP-DIXON, Messrs K & REYES, J & LYNN J Afterglow Adonis For Queenslake 3yr Tri. This little boy showed so well for his handler today. Shown, in pristine condition, and in full coat. A lot to like, a dark rounded eye, correct ear shape and fringing complimenting the frame of the head. For his head, would have just preferred a more defined muzzle to complete the very attractive picture. Good loin length and stood with a straight front. Moved and showed well for handler. RDCC
3rd: CATON Mr J & Mrs S Coffe Ice Cream Forussi at Henrix (Imp)
Class 257 VB NO ENTRIES
Class 258 MPB (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: COX Mr B D S & Mrs P A Denemore Juniper Berrie At Tricianbri Naf. Black mask R/S/W 6m. It was nice to see a good body and muscle tone on this little one at such an early age. Whilst in the ring held her tail well, sometimes difficult at this age. Coped today extremely well with her handler and the confidence will grow.
Class 259 PB (5 Entries) Abs: 1 This was a lovely class of puppies and all three places could have changed easily on another day.
1st: SKELTON, Mrs A & FRASER Mrs A Adnamashan Still Game. 11m Smaller Tri. This little one I loved. Sweet head shape with symmetrical markings complimented by ear fringing. Certainly has the stance with straight front, good shoulder placement, turn of stifle and moved out well carrying top line correctly. In good coat for age and shown in quality condition. BPIB
2nd: MASKELL Mrs K Lilnrose Too Vain to Dream Kazkell
9m smaller Tri. This youngster was unfortunate to be in the same class as my winner today as there is a lot to like. Moved out well, covering the ground, stood square with nicely set shoulders. Gave 100% for her handler and has plenty of time to improve even further. Nice puppy.
3rd: STANBURY Mrs S Inixia Potty Dotty
Class 260 JB (6 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: HILL Mr & Mrs P & J A Caraideas Rhapsody In Blue. Smaller R/S/W 15m. The prettiest of heads, just up my street. Good stop and rise, correct muzzle shape, the sweetest eye expression framed by well placed ears, just so much to like. Straight front and in balance throughout whether stood or on the move. Was really on my shortlist of principal winners today and I am sure it will come soon.
2nd: STANBURY Mrs S Inixia Bella Bella . 12m Dark R/S/W. This one is a lively cricket and her handler put her soul into getting the best from her. When settled was glorious. Showing a lovely gait on the move and showing off her tail set in glory. Pretty little head with lots of nice attributes. Straight front, good balance and superb muscle tone. Just needs now to settle and calm, which I am sure will come. Handled very sympathetically, which, was lovely to see.
3rd: FOYNES, Mr A J & MAY, Mrs C A & WHITEHILL Mrs M Lafay Has The Last Word With Amicae
Class 261 NB (7 Entries) Abs: 2
1st: SKELTON, Mrs A & FRASER Mrs A Adnamashan Still Game . See critique for PB.
2nd: FOYNES, Mr A J & MAY, Mrs C A & WHITEHILL Mrs M Lafay Has The Last Word With Amicae. 14m. R/S. Smaller and dainty little one who has a pretty, tight head with good head markings. Cheeky expression with the look of ‘I want to be into everything’. Moved out well and showed extremely well for handler.
3rd: MASKELL Mrs K Lilnrose Too Vain to Dream Kazkell
Class 262 PGB (6 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: STANBURY Mrs S Inixia Hot Stuff. 2yr Black mask R/S/W. As always with this kennel a good body and muscle tone. Correctly placed shoulders with deep rib and tuck up. Shown in good coat with plume. Moved out well showing aligned movement around the ring.
2nd: WALLER, Miss M C & MASKELL Mr S Kazkell Theme For A Dream For Lilnrose JW . 2yr Tri. Attentive to handler and very much team work here. Good turn of stifle and placement of front feet good. Walked well, showing drive and very much the happy Papillon who was pleased to be in the ring. Lovely, to see.
3rd: WILLIAMS Mr A L & Mrs S A Moetica Violette at Dolcevita (Imp)
Class 263 LB (3 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: WILLIAMS Mrs A J Sunlight Vision Of Ringlands 3yr R/W. This little one showed her head off today and gave her all, for her handler. The quality of the coat and grooming is superb and a credit to her owner. Profuse fringing which framed a symmetrically marked head with a heart melting expression. Such a lovely picture on the stand, moving out fluently and smoothly at all times. What is there not to like, turn of stifle, good shoulder placement, top line, correct dentition and hare feet. Best of all, had the body and substance that completed the picture. She really pulled out all the stops today. Completely deserved today’s accolade of the BCC.
2nd: COX Mr B D S & Mrs P A Tricianbri Tuppence A Kiss JW
18m smaller R/S/W. There is a lot to like about this little one. Showed a good neckline and kept her top line when on the move. Lovely dark eye and pleasing head shape. Would perhaps hope that in time fringing will come to frame the head for a finished head study.
3rd: MUNN Mrs P Ringlands Treasure Sunshine
Class 264 OB (5 Entries) Abs: 0 A good class of quality exhibits.
1st: SLATER, Mrs C & BANFIELD, Mr R & Mrs J & SLATER Jorgealin Cast A Spell For Kingshaven. 2yr Tri. Pretty symmetrical head shape, framed by long fringing, complimenting a picture of daintiness. Lacking in body coat today but the tail plume was glorious. Coat quality was in pristine condition. She moved out well and stood for her handler, but, underneath herself. However for me the body weight and substance was sadly lacking when going over her. This little girl could be easily capable of showing out from her frame so much more as the quality is there. This doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve accolades, she does, but needs the body frame to put her on a different platform. So with this in mind I had to be true to my thoughts and she was awarded the RBCC.
2nd: DEAMER Mrs S Grinsdales Sweet Caroline At Bankshill. 4yr R/S/W. In good body and an overall difficult decision between I and 2 placements. I awarded this little one the RBCC as a puppy and then it was a little live wire, pert and cheeky. Today unfortunately she needed more pizzazz as at times she looked like she didn’t want to be there. Still a pretty head and there is so much to like in head and frame. But maybe today she was not feeling at her best, we can all feel like that some days. But still, I have to say a lovely dainty Papillon.
3rd: GEORGE-EVANS Mrs L Jorgealin Moon Magic Sh.CM
