07 February 2025 Papillon Breed Notes

Firstly, I hope everyone survived without too much disruption with the snow, gales and floods that January dealt us all. I know for some it was a very difficult month and my heart goes out to each and every one of you. Bring on spring time and calmer weather conditions.

The first general Championship Show of the year is Manchester Championship Show held at the Staffordshire Show ground, Stafford. The committee put their hearts and souls into making every detail the best it can be for the exhibitors. Everything was well organised and seemed to run smoothly as the day went along. The Best In Show ring looked magnificent.
It was to be a different day for me as I had a thoroughly enjoyable day judging some outstanding Long Coat Chihuahua’s.
The Papillons were situated in the annex and there had been a good entry received. The judge taking the helm was to be breed specialist Estelle Kirk (Kirkchase).I hope you enjoyed your day Estelle.

The South Wales Championship Show and The South Of England Papillon Club combined their shows at one venue. In this current economic climate we are going through a sensible decision made by both clubs. The shows were held at Pucklechurch Community Centre, Bristol. The hall was pleasant and cosy however everyone managed to make sure they were in the ring for their relevant classes.
The South Of England Papillon Club was judged by breed specialist Elaine Davidson ( Elmaraine) from Scotland. Her first time awarding cc’s so I hope she had an enjoyable day.
Unfortunately I can only find the results for The South Wales Show. As soon as I see results of the main winners for SOE I will include in the breed notes.

For the South of Wales Papillon Club Championship show the judge for this show was respected breed specialist Pat Cox (Tricianbri). The day went smoothly along with the help of the experienced stewards, committee and of course the secretary Sue Stansbury always giving one hundred per cent.

The judge went over the dogs very calmly and gently making sure each exhibit was happy whilst in the ring.
Mrs Cox brought some beautiful gifts of Christmas Papillon decorations received by each of the class winners.
The BIS gift was a very lovely Papillon figurine, something certainly to treasure.

Ted Whitehill posted the sad news that Malcolm Fowler (Anncolm) has sadly passed away. A judge and exhibitor, who was very highly respected within the Papillon community. Condolences to all his friends and family.

The nights are not closing in so early, bulbs are showing their heads and even the sunshine has been showing its face. Crufts is not far in the distance, so much to get excited about. Take care travelling to the shows.
