10 May 2024 Papillon Breed Notes
There was a double show at UKTD with The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club holding their Championship show once UKTD judging was completed. I am sure many of the exhibitors were saddened to see this happen. This show in previous years was always the highlight of the parent clubs calendar holding the show at The Kennel Club Buildings or in previous years The Sky Blue. In previous years so much used to go on at the show, with the club stand, annual awards being awarded, The Papillon Junior Handler of The Year Finals and an interesting and informative archive table.
Chris Headley the clubs secretary and the committee worked hard to make an atmospheric atmosphere with lovely rosettes and Easter Eggs on offer and did their very best, but it was always going to be an uphill battle.
A long day was ahead and I think we eventually left the building long past 7.30pm. For those exhibitors travelling a long distance, this was a marathon of a day. By the end I think everyone had the look of “Just let me get home”. But new things have to be tried and tested. However I was delighted to hear the news that next year’s show 2025 will revert back to the Kennel Club Building.
For this show well respected breed specialist Sue Stanbury of the Inixia affix was judging both sexes. Hilary Joyce (Chappel) was to have judged the bitches but had to go into hospital for an operation and regretfully had to cancel. We hope Hilary is now on the road to recovery.
A baby puppy class was held in another area and all the little ones seem to enjoy their experience with their handlers.
The entry was pleasing with 115 dogs making 127 entries.
The principal winners were as follows.
Best In Show / DCC/ Best Fringes In Show a very delighted Inna Kolmakova with Bingo Adam (atc BA47197UKR), RBIS/RDCC Kirsty & Evan Ryan and Kathleen Roosen’s Ch U Knock me off my Feet Daydream Believers with Feorlig (Imp Bel), BOS/ BCC/Best Puppy In Show a thrilled Susie & Margaret Orchard’s Panspayon PennyRoyale.

It is with great sadness that the news has come through that Lt Cdr Brian Cox RN of the Tricianbri affix has passed away. For some while now Brian had been struggling in health but always had such a positive attitude with Pat by his side. Pat and Brian last year celebrated sixty one years of marriage. Brian was a gentleman in every way, always having time for a chat when at the shows. He was involved deeply with the South of England Papillon Club, holding major positions within the club, at this time he was an Honorary Life Member.
He will be greatly missed by so many people in the Papillon fraternity. We are sending our love to you Pat and of course condolences to all the family members during this difficult time.
Take care going to the shows and enjoy every minute being with your four paws.
