24 May 2024 Papillon Breed Notes
West of England Ladies Kennel Club set in the beautiful Malvern. This year the Papillons were located in the luxurious haven of the Severn Hall. It has been a few years since our ring was here and it was so good. The weather was not being kind as it was Baltic and more like a winter’s day, everyone was wrapped up and trying to be as snug as they could be. The Halls were apparently on a different level of coldness so how grateful was I of the Severn Hall, thank you WELKS committee.
The judge for our breed was to be well respected toy specialist Jane Paradise. I think the last time she judged we were just coming out of Covid when shows were returning back to some kind of normality. So it would have been a very different experience for the judge this time.
The ring was of a spacious size with plenty of grooming areas surrounding. So you didn’t feel like you were standing on each other’s shoulders. Judging commenced on time and went smoothly along with the help of the lovely stewards.
Mrs Paradise went over the dogs on the table beautifully making sure each four paws were happy and contented with the job in hand. Whilst on the floor each exhibitor was given the opportunity to make sure their charges moved and stood at their best. The day moved smoothly along without any altercations.
Gary Thompson was present filming a live stream of Papillon Live and as always Gary had everything organised to perfection. What a godsend this is for folk at home unable to be at the shows and keeping everyone in the loop. There are many people in the UK and globally that are so grateful. I am sure everyone thanks Gary for giving up his precious time, making others so happy.
The principal winners for the show were as follows. Irene and Glenn Robb’s Gleniren Oops I Did It Again Sunshoo took a fabulous BCC/ BOB and a lovely Toy Group 1 under Tim Ball. This was a second challenge certificate for Britney, today becoming the bride and not bridesmaid to her older sister Selena. The baby of the team Sophia, Gleniren Miracle Starmaker took a lovely BP and RBCC. Then Sophia went on to take a super TPGP4 under Marion Sargent. We were so proud of them both.
Jo Davidson Poston had a lovely day too taking the DCC with Ch Sky Butterfly Elven Cron Prince Spinillons ShCEx Sk Winner23 (Imp Rus) and Best Veteran with Int/nl/Ir Ch Spinillons Classic Caress JW ShCM Cw14 Ir Jr Ch Ppvn15. The RDCC went to Susie and Margaret Orchard’s Ch Nightfire’s Be Unique in Style at Panspayon JW ShCEx OSW (Imp Deu).
Well done to everyone that achieved what they had hoped for at the show. I guess for sure the heating in the car was on full blast to warm the tootsies going home.
Okehampton & DCS Open Show saw well respected Toy Specialist Steve Rooney (Yorone/Jaschin) take the helm for the Papillons at this show and also the TGP. Susie and Margaret Orchard took BOB and TGP1 with Panspayon Pennyroyle and Sue Stanbury had a lovely day with her youngster Inixia Sowton Sensation taking Reserve Best of Breed/Best Puppy and TPGP2. What a lovely day, very well done everyone.
The show season is bursting into full swing and the hamster wheel is about to build up speed. Take care on your travels up and down the country and remember it is supposed to be fun.
