14 June 2024 Papillon Breed Notes
This was a busy showing weekend for Papillon and Phalene exhibitors with an opportunity of three Championship shows to compete in.
Firstly on the Saturday the Scottish Kennel Club were combining their May and Oct shows together. What a mammoth task the committee had set themselves, they must have truly been exhausted when it was completed. Just the logistics and keeping everything moving along smoothly must have been an endurance course. But they did it in a spectacular way and from reports I have heard from exhibitors this was achieved in bucket loads. So hats off to Stuart Payne and his hard working committee for achieving what seemed like the impossible.
The May show was the first to start the day. For this show Toy specialist Mr Kevin Sharpe-Dixon of the Queenslake affix with the help of his well organised stewards commenced the mornings judging. I unfortunately couldn’t go up to the show with Glenn but watched avidly on Pap Live thanks to Gary Thompson. I am sure those that were not able to be at the show were very grateful to be able to do so.
The ring looked of a good size and the judge had a kind and caring manner with exhibitors and dogs.
The judges principal winners were as follows: A first show in the UK after winning the Toy Group at Crufts Multi Ch Fashion First High Priority (Imp) went on to take the DCC and BOB and then the following day in an extremely strong Toy Group took a lovely Toy Group 2 under Mrs Meriel Taylor. Raffa had only been in the country just over a week so his co-owners Glenn Robb and Asta Gudbergsdottir were absolutely delighted that he had adjusted so well and showed his little heart out. Best Puppy in Breed was another thrill for Glenn and I with Gleniren Miracle Starmaker strutting her little paws and making us so proud the next day taking Toy Puppy Group 1 under Mr David Bell. We made the collective decision that the dogs would not go to the breed show being held the next day at Lanark but they would spend a leisurely morning closer to SKC. The SKC morning had been a 3am start from home and having then to set off on another early morning to Lanark and then rush to return to Edinburgh was not ideal for a seven month old puppy, this meant that Sophia and Raffa could be rested and relaxed. We were disappointed as we always love attending the Papillon Clubs Scottish Shows but the welfare of the four paws must come first and our decision paid dividends as the next day they showed perfectly.
Best Veteran In Breed was a delight Pam Taylor with Pamhurst Capriccio At Kanetayl
Best Special Beginner & Best Special Beginner Toy Group 4 under Stuart Plane was Angela Pinder’s Afterglow Barbette With Starmarla. Very well done Angela.
BCC was a thrilled Mary Whitehill with Amicae Bright Spark. A magical third Challenge Certificate so a very special day indeed.
RDCC Peterson & Ridgeway’s Nana Nanken Tuff Enuff At Serna-stedtamd finally RBCC Kirsty and Evan Ryan , Kathleen Roosens and Jens Goessens’s Ch / Swed Ch / Boz&H Ch Uppercut Daydream Believers with Feorlig.
A little coffee break for the exhibitors between another breed and then onto the Oct show where Toy specialist Mrs Lorraine Gillesphy was the breed judge. Again all seemed to go smoothly and Gary Thompson from Pap Live was still standing and just being the hero to us all at home. BCC/ BOB/ TGP1 and RBIS went to Ryan, Roosens and Goessens’s, Ch / Swed Ch / Boz&H Ch Uppercut Daydream Believers with Feorlig. Many congratulations to everyone. The TGP judge was Bethan Evans and BIS judge was Ben Reynolds Frost.
BPIB and RBCC Irene and Glenn Robb’s Gleniren Miracle Starmaker who then went on to take a lovely TPGP3 under Vanessa Williams-Wegmann. Best Veteran was Karen Maskell’s Kazkell Robin The Limelight JW Sh.CM VW VW, Best Special Beginner Angela Pinder’s Afterglow Barbette With Starmarla.
DCC Glenn Robb and Asta Gudbergsdottir’s Multi Ch Fashion First High Priority (Imp). This made the third magical Challenge Certificate in three straight shows to give him his UK crown. Well done Raffa, we are so proud of you. RDCC Daphne Watson’s Asan Mersana (imp Pol) Ir J Ch.
Congratulations to everyone attending the show and most of all to the exhausted committee.
Next day was The Papillon Dog Club of Scotland held at Lanark. This venue is always a joy to attend and the hall is shared with The Scottish Pomeranian Club. It always works so well and has a lovely atmosphere whenever I had attended. I believe the club stall was there and Liz with her lovely comfy bedding
The judge for the day was Toy Specialist Mrs Sheila Hindle, I believe a first Papillon Challenge Certificate appointment for the judge , so a very special day.

Elmarine Chasing Rainbows, BPIS/ BPD Rosemarie Hobson’s Wilachans Teddy at Rosenjon, BVIS Helen Walsh’s Ch Jorgealin Moonstar at Purepixie, BPHIS Sue Morrell’s Athene Vom Schwabenhof for Temelora.
