24 December 2021 Breed Notes

So, the last All Breed Championship shows the Ladies Kennel Club at the NEC has been completed. I will bring more news of the show next week and include the final placings for the awards.

This breed notes I thought I would give a run down on the The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club breed shows.

After much re-scheduling for reasons that I am sure I do not need to spell out, finally the show was to take place as a Partnership show at Birmingham National Championship Dog Show on Sunday 26th September 2021. It was held at the venue of the Margaret Everton Pavilion, Stafford. Or, it is a building in the complex of Bingley Hall.
The Margaret Everton Pavilion is light and spacious with enough space for two generously large rings with plenty of seating and grooming area surrounding. The added bonus was the hard standing car park just outside. All the trade stands and refreshment facilities for the National were just a short distance away if anyone wanted to go for a wander.

First time venture for the two shows to work in sync with each other. I must say it all seemed to work rather well together.
One ring was for the entered Papillons at the Birmingham National and the other for the Papillon Club.
Bitches kicked off the proceedings for the Pap Club and the dogs in the other ring for The National with Derfel Owen judging.

The judges for The Papillon Club on this occasion were both well respected breed specialists. Judging the dogs: Mrs Jean Banfield (Kingshaven) and for the bitches: Mrs Pat Cox ( Tricianbri). The referee was Mrs Norma Inglis (Craigow). There was an entry of 156 Dogs, making 174 entries. Both judges looked amazing in very smart outfits fit for the occasion. As breed specialists as you would expect they went over the dogs on the table so well, ensuring each dog was comfortable and happy. Each exhibit was given the chance to put best paws forward and could use to the best advantage the spacious ring that was on offer.
The results for the show were as follows. Best in Show/ DCC Irene and Glenn Robb’s Gleniren Who’s Your Daddy, Res Best In Show/ BOS Caroline Lee-Slater and Kewley’s Magic Sunrise Believe in Me (Imp LVA), Best Puppy In Show Kirsty Miller, Evan Ryan’ & Kathleen Roosen’s U Knock Me Off My Feet Daydream Believers with Feorlig (Imp Bel), Best veteran In Show Jo Davidson-Poston’s : Ch, Ir Ch, Nl Ch & Int Ch Spinillons Rebel Rowser JW, ShCm, CW14 VW, SHCEX. For the RCC’s it was RDCC Drs E Anne & M L L Griffiths’s Manawyddan Harryhare, RBCC Carl Cooper’s Wilachans Bo (I believe this was a first time for a rcc , so congratulations) and RBPIS Kirsty Miller & Evan Ryan’s Feorlig Say it with Flowers. Well done to everyone at the show who gained the placements they aspired to, that is the main objective and also to enjoy.

Next, on to the results for Birmingham National. This was a special day for Derfel Owen as it was the first time giving Papillon Challenge Certificates.
The judge arrived looking smart and ready for the day ahead starting with the males. He went over the dogs in a gentle, kind, considerate way allowing each exhibitor to get the best out of their dogs.
The results for this two part show were.
BOB/BCC Kirsty Miller & Evan Ryan’s Ch Feorlig Smart Cookie JW, DCC Irene & Glenn Robb’s Gleniren Who’s Your Daddy. BPIB/ RBCC Caroline Lee- Slater & Kewley’s Magic Sunrise Natalia (IMP LVA), Best Veteran Susie Orchard’s Ringland Yoko’s Solo At Panspayon Sh.CM. RDCC Kate Bulls’s Altaya Star Attraction. Well done to everyone.

16th October brings us to the Breed Clubs Joint Show, this year hosted by The Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club. Once again at the same venue The Margaret Everton Pavilion. A favourable entry of 105 dogs making an entry of 117.
On offer were some rather fabulous specials for BIS, RBIS, BPIS and BVIS . For BIS a Kool Pup dryer presented by Liz Bartram on behalf of Lisa and Chris Christensen and Rabart. Chris Headley donated a hamper and an amazing BIS card by Margaret Unwin.
Each class winner received a bottle of wine, beds for the puppy winners and specials for everyone. There were free hot and cold drinks all day for exhibitors. So the Pap Club really did pull out all the stops to make this a special show. In the lunch break there was also a puppy walk for the up and coming new baby four paws.

The judge for the day was extremely well known breed specialist from bonnie Scotland Mr Mark Whitehill (Martika) who arrived smartly dressed in Scottish regalia. It was a chilly bon bon day outside and with Covid being on many exhibitors’ minds all the windows and doors were open wide. So it was either jump up and down to generate warmth or shiver quietly.

Mr Whitehill gave every exhibitor plenty of time so they never felt rushed with their charges. He went over the dogs on the table in a matter of fact way which is always the best as it gives the dogs confidence and settles them down. What I did notice when the dogs were on the table he would stand away to see the outline and front aspects of the dog to evaluate a fuller picture.

The show went like clockwork under the supervision of Brian Lees, Christine Headley and all the committee. They were always running around making sure everyone was happy with the day. Jean Banfield sat tirelessly marking up the placements slips and marking up the catalogue. So you could say everyone was working in unison.
The awards for the day were as follows with both judges Jean Banfield and Pat Cox agreeing on their decision. A very delighted Irene and Glenn Robb received BIS/DCC with Ch Gleniren Who’s Your Daddy. RBIS/ RDCC went to Elaine Davidson with Elmaraine Chasing Rainbows. BOS/BCC Mrs Gregory’s Tonkory Waiting In The Wings, BPIS Kirsty Miller, Evan Ryan & Kathleen Roosen’s U Knock Me Off My Feet Daydream Believers with Feorlig. RBPIS Caroline Lee Slater’s & Kewley’s Gracaz Pap Reeka, BVIS Susie Orchard’s Ringlands Yoko’s Solo at Panspayon ShCM and BPHIS Karen Maskell’s Linrose Ears Looking At You Kaskell . RBCC Caroline Lee Slater & Kewley’s Magic Sunrise Believe In Me (imp LVA)

So now onto the Christmas Show for The Pap Club. Everyone on the committee put all their efforts into one oversized Christmas goodies bag to make this a festive occasion. The hall looked from the pictures I have seen to have been decorated beautifully with a festive air.
Chris Anderson was there as she had been at the previous shows with the club stall. Plenty of browsing I guess with folk looking for that extra Christmas present. It takes a lot of time and effort to run the club stall and I am sure everyone is very grateful for Chris’s hard work and commitment.
Christmas crackers were a token from the club for everyone exhibiting.
The Christmas jumper competition was jointly awarded to Susie Orchard and Petula Humpheys.
The total entry for the show was 67 dogs making 71 entries, plus 7 NFC and 10 for the puppy walk.

Breed Specialist Mrs Christine Headley (Yeldaeh) was to be the judge for the show.

So Christmas is here, I hope you have all been extra good and Santa Pap made his way to your house leaving lots of lovely gifts. Enjoy the festive period, have fun and laugh plenty, that is good for the soul of everyone.
Take care and enjoy to the max.
