Critique

I had eagerly anticipated this appointment for several years, & hoped to find some SOUND quality exhibits, in the end I was not disappointed; I was especially pleased with my bitch line-up, finding quality in depth & 3 or 4 bitches who could have changed spots on other days -a couple I would happily have popped in my bag.

The ground was uneven in places with hidden potholes with some handlers struggling to show their charges to best advantage as it did not make moving easy, it did little to help those dogs whose movement was already not their fortune. Some dogs were really far too thin for me & others lacked the rounded ears called for in the standard.

The limited number of adult papillons who had a full compliment of clean, white, tartar free, teeth, set correctly into the jaw, giving a good true scissor bite was quite surprising, a shocking number with overlapping & crowded, misaligned, protruding or missing teeth, some with totally level bites & a number with seriously inflamed gums & gingivitus of long standing was of concern .

Teeth are surely very pertiment to good health ,longevity & as breeding stock worthy of better consideration I believe, especially in animals this young, these were not middle aged or veteran papillons..BUT Those supposedly at their prime! Perhaps more attention should be given to this area?

1st: BACK’S Kazkell Ching Ching For Leighroy Sh.CM

Elegant, r/w young 8 ½ yr. old boy, very light on his lovely hare-feet ,presented in well textured fine flowing silky coat ,giving a pleasing overall picture. Refined head with lovely moulding from cheeks though to fine muzzle, has gone a little fuller in eye with age, but still showing a good rounded dark eye. Good sized well fringed leathers & a correctly proportioned head, full mouth with correct bite. Moved neatly. Well covered ribs of good depth, nice muscle tone & body weight, lovely plume & tail carriage. Attentive showman, Handsome dog who is a credit to his owner.

2nd: THOMPSON & AUSTINS Jhanakia Highland Destiny

More robustly built r/w 8 yr. old of correct size , who excels in strong rear angulation, movement & drive, just didn’t seem to be at his best today. Masculine boy of good build , with level top line & sensible outlook, well set & used tail, presented in nice coat , not the refinement in head of 1 ,being stronger under the eyes & cheeks , although a quality dog of great appeal who can still challenge the best on other days.

1st: ROBBS’ Gleniren Stardustmaker,

8 month r/w, quite a precocious chap who shows himself to advantage. has a most appealing beautifully balanced head ,with a lovely moulded foreface, correct bite & soft expression, nicely rounded ,well placed & shaped dark eye , large flared ears . Professionally presented in good coat & fringes for age. Well balanced with lovely level top line, fine & dainty all through but nice round bone, Correct jug handled tail & particularly good rear angulation with Short hocks. So well-schooled stands squarely behind. Very positive going away, still needs to settle in front, no doubt will reach his potential, but a little too light in body for me today.

2nd: MORRELL & TEAGUES Amicae Moonshine

8 month old Tri boy of very pleasing type. Good body, with nice depth of rib & level top line, correct head pattern with a really nice eye set, size &shape. Needs more time to come together &settle,Was not happy on the move today.

Very mature ,stylish, eye catching Tri ,full flowing silky coat, pushed hard for serious consideration . Very refined throughout ,fine rounded bone, beautiful elegant tufted hare-feet, firm level top line, good neck, rib & overall balance ,good length to height ratio . Well-proportioned head with finely pointed foreface. Well set & fringed ears, would prefer slightly larger & more rounded ear & eye to soften the expression. Needs to firm up in movement but has time on his side. Gives a really finished picture for his age, Promising dog. BPD

2nd: STANBURYS Inixia Cheeky Chap ,

Wonderful ears & expression on this taller b/w boy, only 10 months & not as advanced as some, needs more time to settle into himself & come together yet, but has all the makings of a sound type with a firm level top line, well set tail & good rib. Be very interesting to see him in another 18 months.

Very well balanced dark r/w, presented in lovely coat & condition. Very attentive showman who put his all in. good shaped rounded skull, large well set ears & nice rounded dark eye, Correctly proportioned head although little fuller in foreface . Good length of back, level top line, quite well angulated quarters & correctly set tail. Moved ok.

2nd: NASH Ookiimimi Jitterbug,

Tri ,showing quite nice body of good balance, Very well-muscled throughout, unlike many ,well developed ,strong bone & legs although would prefer better shaped feet. Good neck & tail carriage, pleasing head with nice eye & lovely ears, Not moving to advantage going away today.

3rd: THOMPSON & AUSTIN s Melangel Highland Vogue At Jhanakia

1st: BORGs Elendil Bellman ,

Young b/w with elegance & wonderful fine silky coat. Very refined throughout with the loveliest hare-feet . Very neat dog, slightly less stop than some, but a well-rounded skull & a finely tapering foreface with smoothly moulded cheeks, lovely dark rounded eye with a soft expression & large flaring well fringed ears. Did enough to win the class but did not perform to best advantage today.

2nd: MASKELLs Kazkell I’m A Dream In Motion ,

Difficult age for this Tri, is between coats & appears a bit long on the leg as he is lacking furnishings at this stage. Is a really attentive showman with good angulation & rib, strong loin & good musculature . Really lovely eye giving a super expression, well balanced head & muzzle, good bite, well set & used ears. Adequate neck. Moved with purpose although needs more time & better schooling.

s/s/w dog, was Lovely to go over on the table , liked him a lot, Really well muscled boy , with strong level top line, well angulated front & rear, well-developed second thigh lacking in so many, felt really fit, Super shaped feet, well balanced head with lovely foreface, nice dark eye ,very pleasing dog.

2nd: BULLs Altaya Foreign Affair ,

Well set front leading into lovely neck & top line on this b/w boy, Nice tail plume, good head & foreface, moved well.

3rd: GEARYs Powdermill Designer Touch at Taliesyn

Elegant typey b/w dog of good size ,who is no showing fool & did not really put in his best effort today. Did just enough to win his class but sadly let himself down in the challenge. Loved his type & style, quite well made, with good depth of rib & body, level top line &well set & carried tail. Adequate neck. In full coat of good texture, with wonderful fringes on his large well shaped ears, although reluctant to use. Beautifully proportioned head with good length, (if a touch strong) of foreface. quite masculine outlook ,lovely dark eye giving super soft expression, moved ok if little wide in front in the class & was close up for consideration originally but seemed out of sorts & did not move well going away in the challenge .

2nd: MASKELLs Kazkell Thyme To Dream JW Sh.CM ,Very glamorous mature tri boy presented in first class order, Lovely coat ,really pleasing balanced dog, with good top line, neck & firm rear quarters, well-muscled. elegant ,with no sign of coarseness given his years, nice bend of stifle . Well let down behind, stylish mover, Well balanced head, correct bite , merry bright expression & good dark eye. Strode out well, very true coming & going. Very close decision. 1&2.

Very well groomed & presented glamorous elegant & fine, little dog. Absolutely up on his toes at all times & gave 110%. Well angulated rear, with lovely bend of stifle & totally parallel upright short hocks, good rear pasterns. Moving out with drive &purpose, showing a lovely clean pair of heels going away. Very Stylish, eye catching dog, totally in tune with his handler. Well carried plume, lovely level top line, beautifully textured coat, correct bite & teeth, bright expressive dark eye, deep stop, smoothly moulded cheeks, well fringed ears, neat feet. Extremely well-schooled boy, stood absolutely squarely behind at all times. An ultimate showman ,DCC

2nd: ORCHARDs Alex’ Eye Of The Tiger At Panspayon (Imp) NAF ,

Elegant masculine clear r/w soundly made boy, of sensible size but with no sign of coarseness. Very pleasing body of lovely proportions, correct length of back & loin for his height ,good spring of rib & lovely neck sitting into good shoulders. Well angulated rear, with good strong hock, well-shaped feet &well sprung pasterns all round. Correctly set & carried tail, carrying full long coat of good texture. Pleasing head of good proportions, good sized ears with adequate fringing, good length of muzzle, strong teeth & good bite. Showed & moved well, sadly not the finish, presentation, polish & showmanship of 1… Yet! A strong contender who could easily change places on another day after a bit more time with his new handler. RCC.

Very pleasing ,12 yr old who can certainly show some of youngsters how to move ,Very neat, totally parallel moving both ways ,on good legs & feet . Very well-muscled throughout, good depth of rib, strong loin & top line, good tail set. Well-proportioned head with pleasing fine foreface. Not the glamour or coat of BVD, but BV on soundness of movement.

Stylish tri who strides out so well, with good top line & superbly set & carried jug handled tail. Good size & body, nice neck, well-shaped hare-feet &pleasing angulation both ends. Nicely shaped head with finely moulded foreface . Very feminine girl with good sized leathers &fringes coming along nicely . Promising puppy.

1st: MILLERs Feorlig Viva La Vida ,

Quite impressed with this clear r/w , quietly & empathetically handled by her young handler- developing a good rapport . Quite a stylish feminine pup, with a quality classic flat silk single coat of excellent texture. Slightly taller girl, but finely boned, with bit bigger but refined skull, Absolutely level top line ,good elegant neck, nice spring of rib, good length of back ,bit narrow through yet but will come with time & bit more body. Huge well set ears. Very neat mover especially going away . BPB/BP.

2nd: STANBURYs Inixia Cheeky Cherub ,

B/w who is much less mature for age overall , but with particularly promising build , well let down strong hock ,good rear & muscle, lovely set & carried plume, very pleasing depth of rib. Nicely moulded foreface & good bite. Would prefer larger ear & eye to balance the picture, but like her kennel mate, would be interesting to see at a later date when coated & matured a bit more.

Full of verve, fit & with excellent muscle tone, Elegant girl has a lovely body to feel, strong straight top line, well developed loin &well sprung rib, correctly set & carried plume, pleasing head shape with nicely balanced foreface, nice dark eye

although ear set a little higher than ideal for me, Flat single coat , quite nice for age ,was quite hyped so although fleet of foot , movement was a bit erratic. Interesting bitch who when settles to job in hand & calms down should come together well.

2nd: WALLERs Melangel Vanity Fayre At Lilnrose ,

Dark s/s who I thought would be my winner when first going around, soundly made sensible dual purpose bitch, with a super body , not so dainty as some but lovely balance ,all fits together well, strong top line, well-muscled, moved out purposefully albeit moving touch wide going away today, Really good movement in profile, bit stronger all through , but nice height . Well-proportioned head –fits her sounder frame but fuller faced & stronger muzzle rather than refined point of some. Not enhanced by her heavier colour, Easy to see why she can be overshadowed by the more glamorous, better schooled outlook of others in her class. Allowed to stand tucked up but stretches out when asked, would benefit from more training & better presentation.

Such femininity & appeal, b/w , the sweetest of heads ,with lovely large flared ears & curtain fringing, if a little reluctant to engage &make the best use of them, Rather uncooperative today. Fine, refined, dainty & elegant bitch of nice size, good length of back, well defined rib, good length of neck, classic single flat coat, level top line, good turn of stifle ,steady mover, correct mouth, needs a bit more animation to pull it all together.

2nd: MANNs Golygfamor Bewitched By Melangel ,

Pleasing b/w type with good body, correct tail & . top line strongly muscled neck, good round bone, nice hocks & feet, honest bitch, preferred her moulding to the cheeks & foreface than 3.

Well presented in lovely coat, elegant bitch with a good head, rounded skull smoothly moulded cheeks leading to nicely pointed foreface. Correct top line with good length of back, well carried tail, neat mover, Pleasing type.

Full of quality this s/s/w ,with dark mask is so very appealing, excellent size & balance, beautifully put together, with wonderful arched neck, good lay of shoulder which was so lacking in many ,lovely weight, in good muscle & lovely correct coat, really long tail, firm top line ,beautifully proportioned head, large dark well set expressive eye &whilst is not the most outgoing of showgirls is so dignified ,Flowed on the move when handled by her owner-like her dam in a class apart ,Hope her title is not too far away. Had to give way to her kennelmate on attitude & showmanship today. RCC

2nd:COXs Denemore Gabiscandy Floss At Tricianbri (Ikc) JW ,a lot to like in this well-presented dark r/w bitch with nice coat ,good expression from a well-rounded dark eye, nice head pattern ,would prefer more pointed foreface for size, Well-schooled ,stands & shows well, true neat moving both ways, nice type ,rather narrow through & not enough body coverage for me.

Mature 5 yr. old ultra-feminine fine & dainty r/w without any sign of weakness, who put all comers in the dark today, Totally filled my eye, Fits the standard to a T. Had easily the best lay of shoulder & set back of front legs of the entry. Well arched neck holding head proudly, fitting smoothly into excellent forequarters, upper arm of good length & lovely level top line. Stood foursquare naturally on lovely straight legs & true hare-feet. Text book make & shape. Correctly balanced standing & moving ,very attentive showgirl who moving out with controlled drive, excellent reach & front extension ; sensibly presented to advantage, profuse single untrimmed flat silky coat, beautifully fringed large rounded flared ears ,wonderful melting expression from her dark rounded eyes, Well set full mouth. Beautiful bitch – dam of RCC, acquitted herself admirably both in the breed & in the Group. Proud to award her BCC/BOB.

A close up decision for RCC, I really admired this lovely l/w bitch who is so very light & stylish on the move, Super body ,balance & type , loved her colour & markings &fabulous coat ,Presented in superb condition, longer legged & size up on 1 but no sign of heaviness, to be touch critical would just have preferred a slightly larger, rounded & better furnished ear, but one from the top draw who surely should achieve her title soon.
