Papillons Critique

A lovely new venue for a brand new dog show – The North East Of England Toy Dog Society Championship Show. What a pleasure and honour it was to be invited to judge papillons at this their inaugural championship show and what a fine job the committee did in what were very trying circumstances. They pulled off what ended up being a super show – warm, inviting, friendly and good humoured. Hats off to you all. You’ve set a high bar. Many thanks to my steward who did a great job of organising the ring and keeping me right and to the exhibitors who gave up their weekend to show under me and then good naturedly accepted my decisions. I wish there had been more red rosettes to give out. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dogs in general and of the bitches in particular. Ears are quite amazing these days – very large, mobile, round tipped heavily fringed and correctly set. Well done to the breeders for nailing such an iconic breed feature. For the most part teeth were fairly clean and it was nice to see hare feet starting to come back.

1 Ms’s J Kerrison and J Williams. Kezkez Signore Nico Rosberg B/W. Liked this boy a lot. Lightly marked, very pretty, dainty, well balanced, little dog. Correct head proportions. Large, correctly set ears with abundant fringing. A lovely dark eye and sweet expression. Everything in the right place and nice hare feet too. Good on the move. Just lacking a little in confidence today but nonetheless was pleased to award him BSB
2 Ms J Swallow. Celebrity Frane David Beckham (Imp Hrv). B/W. Another nice type. Almost a solid head although well proportioned. Lovely dark pigment and good well fringed ears. Good front and rear assembly and moved well.

1 Mr & Mrs C & J Mowatt. Iotastar’s Brave New World. B/W. Have always loved this boy who for me epitomises the breed I fell in love with. Beautiful head and expression. Correct size and body proportions. In full coat with all the finishing. Focused on handler and doing all that was asked.
2 Mrs K Maskell. Kazkell Robin The Limelight JW Sh.cm VW. R/W. Different type to 1 but still a lot to like. Pretty, well proportioned head with good ears and fringing. Good fore and aft with correctly set on tail and level top line. And nice to see the correct hare feet.

1 Mrs C Lee-Slater. Graycaz Where I Go Hugo’s (Naf). 6 months. Very raw baby but with lots of potential. Good, large, correctly set ears. Nice reach of neck and depth of body. Correct shoulder layback with good angulation front and rear. Look forward to seeing how he matures.
2 Buckley-Waters Mrs I L and Lord D L R. Vlinder Piano Man Of Sempefidelis. B/W. 8 months. Lovely large, flaring ears very well fringed for age. Adequate reach of neck going into a good slope of shoulder. Ample depth of chest and level topline. Good angulation and tailset. Coat coming. Just not settled today.
3 Mr & Mrs M & A Atkins. Vlinder I’m Still Standing. PD (2,1) 1 Thomson Lady J. Elendil San Miguel. 9 months. B/W. Beautiful ears with good fringing for age. Lovely dark eye. Good neck and slope of shoulder. Good depth of body. Level top line and correct tail set. Promise of a lovely coat to come. Moved well. Happy and enjoying his day.

1 Mrs & Miss E & K Anderson. Elmaraine Outlander for Northlyte. B/W. Smart little dog with lots to admire. Well balanced and carries himself nicely. Good head, ears and pigment. Nice medium reach of neck with good angulation front and back. Lovely level top line with a good spring of rib and correct high set tail. Moved and showed well. Lovely silky coat coming.
2 Ms’s J & J Kerrison & Williams. Lastayla Caramel Shortcake. R/S/W. Heavily marked dog but with a lot to like. A nicely proportioned head with good ears and pigment and an appealing expression. Good body proportions too but needs to carry more weight. Again good quality coat coming.

2 Mrs C Lee-Slater. Graycaz Etienne. 10 months. This young boy was enjoying his day and showed well for his handler. He has lovely ears and used them well throughout. Dark pigment and a pleasing expression. He’s put together nicely with good angulation, level top line, reach of neck and tail set with a correct coat coming.

1 Mrs T Collins. Kentwone Magnum. R/W. Good skull proportions and pigment. Lovely large ears correctly placed. Adequate reach of neck into well laid shoulder. Good angulation both front and rear with nice level top line and high set tail.
2 Mrs M Keown. Keomandi Fly Me To The Moon Jw. Tri. Could have gone either way between 1 & 2. Nicely balanced with good angulation and shoulder placement. Level top line with correctly set tail. Moved out well.
3 Ms’s J Kerrison & J Williams. Kezkez Signore Nico Rosberg.

1 Ms H Walsh. Pure pixie Red Admiral. R/S/W. Nice type. Well balanced little dog with lovely head and ears, darkest of pigment and sweet expression. Correct medium reach of neck onto well laid shoulders, good angulation, level top line and correct tail set. Hare feet. Moved well in profile and coming and going. In full coat with all the finishing. Would have liked to have seen him more settled but did more than enough to win the class.
2 Mrs M Keown. Keomandi Fairy King. R/S/W. Another really nicely balanced little dog with a lovely head and good body proportions. Nicely put together throughout resulting in good movement but would have preferred a slightly darker eye.

Correct medium length of neck flowing into well laid shoulder. Good angulation both front and rear with level top line, good spring of rib and high set tail. Fine, silky coat. Happy to award him CC
2 Mr G Robb and Mrs A M Gudbergsdottir. Ch & Multi Ch Fashion First High Priority (Imp). Tri. Lovely pigment with very large, correctly set ears and beautiful curtain fringing. Correct scissor bite. Nice fine, strong bone. Medium length of neck flowing to a correctly placed shoulder. Straight front with good angulation and nice turn of stifle. Level top line and high set tail. Good depth of body. Silky coat. Presented and showed to perfection. RCC

1 Ms H Walsh. Ch Jorgealin Moon Star At Purepixie. R/W. Have admired this little beauty for many years. Such a lovely type. Dainty and well-balanced. Perfect head proportions with dark pigment and large flaring ears and the most appealing of expressions. Correctly put together throughout producing good movement both coming and going and in profile. In full coat with all the finishing. Unfortunately, just not quite herself today but nevertheless very happy to award her BV.
2 Mrs A Skelton. Adnamashan Still Game. Another very nice example of the breed. Good head proportions with large, fringed ears correctly set on. Nice expression. Well balanced in body with good angulation, level top line and high tail set. In full coat and furnishings thoroughly enjoying her day.

1 Mrs Angela Hector. Caramel Dream Perlowy Raj At Taisett. R/S/W. 8 months. Lovely little minor puppy bitch. Lots to like. Lovely head and ears with dark pigment and correct scissor bite. Balanced in body. Nice medium neck into good shoulder placement. Good angulation, level top line and good tail set. Moved correctly and showed well.
2 Mrs G Breen. Amicae Moonflower. Tri. 6 months. Another lovely little girl with lots of potential. Dainty and well balanced. Good head and ears. Medium neck onto a well placed shoulder. Depth of body, level top line and high tail set. Good rear angulation. Just needs to settle in front a little.
3 Mrs C Lee-Slater. Graycaz Dutch Courage.

1 Mrs I & Mr G Robb. Gleniren Miracle Starmaker. 11 months. Dainty, fine boned, nice size, well balanced puppy. Obviously enjoying herself while still doing all that was asked of her. Good head and lovely ears with the promise of abundant fringing to come. Correct reach of neck flowing to good shoulder placement. Level top line, depth of chest, correct tail set and good angulation. Sound in movement and a correct fine, silky coat coming. BPIB
2 Mrs C Lees. Lafford Ninja. 10 months. Tri. And yet another lovely little girl! Again lots to like and although without a blaze she has the sweetest of expressions. Beautiful headpiece. Well made and a lovely coat coming.

2 Lady J & Mrs S Thompson & Austin. Ablazzor Ebony And Ivory At Jhanakia. B/W. Beautiful large, mobile, correctly shaped and set, well fringed ears. Good angulation and level top line with correctly set tail. Showed well for handler.

1 Mr & Mrs C J & J D Mowatt. Iotastar’s Hopes And Dreams. R/S/W. Good head proportions with large, correctly set well fringed ears and nice dark eye. Level top line and correct tail set. Bit unsettled today.
2 Mrs K Maskell. Graycaz Tipsy Truffle at Kassel. Phalene. Again needed to settle more today. Good ears and fringing, top line and tail set with a good quality coat coming.
PGB (7
1 Mrs T Collins. Houm Tetatet Ariette At Collness (Imp Rus). R/S/W. This little girl caught my eye. There’s a lot to like and I considered her for the RCC. But today she needed to settle more. Nonetheless, she has an attractive head with large, correctly set, well fringed ears. Dark pigment. Body proportions are good as is angulation and she moved well. Altogether creates a pleasing picture.
2 Mr & Mrs C J & J D Mowatt. Iotastar’s Pride & Joy. B/W. Another nice type who caught my eye with not a lot to chose between 1 & 2 although I would have preferred a slightly darker eye. She has no blaze, but nevertheless has a lovely headpiece and melting expression. She’s a good size with enough neck, level top line and good tail set and she moved and showed well.
3 Ms H Walsh. Keomandi Gypsy Moon At Purepixie.

1 Mrs M Whitehill. Amicae Colours of a Rainbow. Tri. Nice size and shape with good head and ears. Liked her body proportions, tail set and carriage and she moved well. Lovely temperament for the ring as obviously enjoying herself. Still a young girl who I expect will impress even more as she finishes.
2 Mrs A Skelton. Adnamashan Lady Amelia. B/W. Lovely large, mobile, well set ears with curtain fringing. Good body shape, level top line, high set tail with plenty of fringing. Correct hare feet.
3 Mrs M Keown. Keomandi I Can Fly.

1 Ryan, Mrs K F & Roosens, Miss K & Goessens, Mr J. Multi Ch/Ch Uppercut Daydream Believers With Feorlig. Tri. This lovely girl has blossomed as she’s matured and she now has it all. I wish I had a £1 for everyone who said to me that my BOB was beautiful! There isn’t a box that she doesn’t tick. She is dainty and well-balanced with fine strong bone. She’s got character and attitude a plenty but always shows to perfection when asked. She has a well shaped head, darkest of pigment and magnificent, curtain fringed ears. Correct medium neck flowing into well laid shoulders then onto a level top line and high set tail. She has good angulation giving her the ability to move positively and freely around the ring and to top it all off she has a beautiful, long, fine, silky coat that flows around her as she moves. Elegance personified and presented to perfection. Was more than happy to award her BCC and BOB then delighted to see her go RBIS.
2 Mrs E Kirk. Lynflyer Rainbow Dancer At Kirkchase Jw. Tri. Nicely proportioned. Medium reach of neck, nice slope to the shoulders, level top line, high set tail and nice hare feet. Large well set, mobile, well fringed ears. Lacking a little in coat today.
3 Mrs I L Buckley-Waters & Lord D L R Buckley. Jorgealin Moon Dust For Sempefidelis.
