Critique
My thanks to the officers and committee of the Papillon (Butterfly Dog) Club of Scotland for their kind invitation to judge at this impressively well run show in such beautiful surroundings.
Your warm welcome, generous hospitality, sporting spirit and good humour were a real tonic after what had been a very difficult week.
Many thanks to my steward, Billy Trimble, for his efficiency and good company.
Unfortunately, what was a very good entry was somewhat affected by unavoidable absences rather late in the day.
Almost without exception temperaments were good, most teeth were clean and correct hare feet predominated.
Veteran D/B 7 (4 absent) :
1. Breen Mrs G.’s Zoloto Skyla at Kylecroft (B) Dainty little 9 year old tricolour bitch. She is a nice size and presented a well balanced outline with correct silky coat in lovely condition. She has a pretty head with correct proportions and defined stop. Her eyes are dark and she has good pigmentation. Her bite is perfect and she has glistening white dentition. Good depth, spring of rib and level topline with nicely set arched well furnished tail finishing the picture. She has excellent muscle and floats around the ring with a beautiful light, free flowing movement. Pleased to award her Best Veteran In Show
2. Wilson Mrs W’s Amicae Badger (D) A rather excited 8 year old red, sable and white dog. Unfortunately he was not as happy on the table as he was standing and moving in the ring but nevertheless put up with what was required of him. He has a correctly proportioned head, dark eyes and large well placed ears. He presents a well balanced outline and had a beautifully presented correct profuse silky coat. He was handled perfectly to get the best from him. Moved well
3. Skelton Mrs A’s Adnamashan Still Game (B) Smaller well proportioned 8yr old Tricolour bitch. She has a beautiful coat and was well presented. Her temperament is friendly and alert just as the standard requires. She is a little shorter in body than 1&2

PD 3 (1 absent):
1. Black Mrs D & Miss C’s Amicae Play With Fire Dainty and well balanced 10 month old RSW dog pup. He is well schooled and has a lovely friendly and outgoing temperament. He has lovely dark eyes and pigmentation. His head is correctly proportioned and his well set ears show the beginnings of good fringes to come. His bite and dentition are excellent. He has a level topline and correct tail set held on the move. At this stage his front movement is rather high stepping possibly made more obvious by his enthusiasm. He was very well presented and handled by his young owner. Pleased to award him Best Puppy Dog
2. McPherson Mrs K & Mrs D’s Northlyte Spot The Wanderer A 10month old black and white pup. Larger size than 1. He has lovely big ears and developing fringes set on a correctly proportioned head. Ear carriage a little high at the moment but weight of fringes may help change this in the future. He was well handled and moved well. He has time to mature.

A nice class which on another day could change places.
1. Anderson Mrs E & Mrs K’s Northlyte Ring of Brogan. Smart dainty 3yr old RSW dog he was well presented and handled boy He has a lovely abundant coat and profuse frill on his chest with good ear fringes and plume to match. He presents a nice outline with level topline which he holds on the move. His head is correctly proportioned and lovely dark eyes although pigmentation could be better. He has a good length of neck and excellent well developed shoulders. His light, free flowing movement was the best in the class. Well deserved Reserve Best Dog
2. Davidson Mr MG & Mrs E’s Wildflame at Northlyte An attractive 3 yr old red, sable and white dog. Much of what was said about the coat of 1 applies. He has a correctly proportioned head, good mouth and large well placed ears. Good spring of rib and length of neck. His level topline finishes in a nicely arched, well positioned and fringed tail. His movement was not as fluid as 1 on the day.
3. Whitehill Mrs M’s Northlyte Buffalo Bill A 4yr old tricolour dog who showed himself well but never really settled in line ups and lost his sparkle which cost him in terms of higher place today. A lovely correctly proportioned head, dark eyes and good pigmentation. His large well fringed ears are correctly positioned. Mouth and dentition are correct and teeth spotlessly clean. He has a nice length of neck and well laid shoulders, level topline and well fringed plume which was rather flat. A little unsettled on the move

She has good head proportions and the beginnings of good fringes to come on her large, well positioned ears. She happily allowed me to see her excellent mouth and dentition. Excellent rib for age, level top line. Very well muscled for her age. At this stage her front movement is good but she is not quite so aware of her rear. Level topline and well arched tail. 2. Stewart Ms A’s Melangel Nimble Nessie Rather A 2 yr old black and white bitch. Her handler must be commended as although she was unaccustomed to the show environment she made good progress in encouraging her girl to do as required and they clearly have a good rapport. Unfortunately a little out of coat at the moment she is of larger size. Her rear angulation is good but tail set a little low. Front assembly a little loose on the move.
