13 June 2022 Breed Notes
What a whirlwind few weeks this has been with the shows back in full swing. Bonnie Scotland saw a weekend of shows for Papillons. The first being the Papillon Club of Scotland Championship Show held at Lawrie & Symington Agricultural Cente in Lanark. Good parking and lovely venue always held in the same hall as the Pomeranian Championship Show. Elaine Davidson the secretary of the club and all the committee members had certainly put all hands on deck and had the Papillon ring looking smart and ready for the day ahead. The club stall was ready and full of lovely items to purchase and there was a bedding stall and items for sale with Liz Anderson at the helm. Miriam Bogue was making sure everyone participated in the tombola activities. The raffle table was bulging with many prizes on offer and was also in full swing in the capable hands of Sue Deamer. At the show talented photographer Kyle Davidson was there to take pictures of the winners and anyone who wanted a photograph of their four paws.
There really is a pleasant atmosphere in this venue and it is just the right size for everyone to mingle easily between each other. Also, for those that chose no tot bring their own refreshments a restaurant was available on site.
So, everything was looking good and raring to go. Special thanks must go to Dorothy and Allan of Aquila Gifts for their donations of the main prize winner gifts and junior handling presents. The club also had some spectacular rosettes on offer for the main winners.
For this show the judge had travelled all the way from Southern Ireland, the well respected Breed specialist Mr James Newman. Joan Savage for the show was his very capable steward and she kept everything ticking along smoothly. Mary Whitehill was also judging the Junior Handling and going over the baby puppies for the puppy walk.
The judge arrived on time looking smart, relaxed and ready for his full day ahead. He was kind and considerate to all, giving every exhibitor the time and space to make sure their charges performed at their very best. He went over the dogs whilst on the table perfectly, very calm making sure all dogs were at ease.
The principal winners for the show were as follows: Best In Show/ BCC/ BPIS going to a nine month old puppy, Irene and Glenn Robb’s Gleniren Daddy’s Starmaker. Needless to say it was a very exciting moment for Glenn and I whilst little Selena took everything in her stride. For the BOS/DCC it was Kirsty and Evan Ryan and Kathleen Roosen’s U Knock me off my feet Daydream Believer with Feorlig (Imp Bel). I believe congratulations and celebrations to them as this was the Champion title cc.
RDCC Irene and Glenn Robb’s Ch Gleniren Who’s Your Daddy and RBCC Irene and Glenn Robb’s Suniren Daddy’s Girl.
Best Veteran In Show was a delighted Aidan Foynes with Lafay Petite Etoile JW and Best Phalene In Show Sue Morrell’s Serenglade Leap of Faith. BPD Liz Anderson’s Northlyte Chase the Dream.
Congratulations to everyone and especially to the club for holding such a well organised show.
The following day everyone made their way to SKC (The Scottish Kennel Club) held at The Royal Highland Showground, Ingliston, Edinburgh. We must spare a thought for Lynne George-Evans who unfortunately due to ill health was unable to fulfil her Papillon judging appointment, she must have been very disappointed. Really hope things start to improve very soon Lynne. Due to this, breed specialist Angela Skelton (Admashan) had kindly stepped into the spotlight becoming the Papillon judge for the show.
On arrival at the venue the hall was a bustle of noise and energy. It was a special show for the Toy Group Judge Val Blore as it was her eightieth birthday, so of course a birthday sing song had to be on the cards.
The Pap ring was right at the far end of the hall, not in the usual place we have all become accustomed to. The ring was of a spacious size and judging got underway on time. The judge went over the dogs in a kind and considerate manner on the table and made sure everyone received the time and space they needed for each class.
The principal winners were as follows: DCC / BOB Elaine Davidson’s Elmaraine Chasing Rainbows. Celebrations at the ready as I believe this was the magical third cc, hence giving him his Champion title. (Subject to KC confirmation). Well done to all concerned. Receiving her second cc in two days was Irene and Glenn Robb’s Gleniren Daddy’s Starmaker who also took BPIB and shortlisted in the Top Puppy Group under Liz Stannard. RDCC Irene & Glenn Robb’s Ch Gleniren Who’s Your Daddy and RBCC A delighted Kirsty Taylor with Pamhurst Definitely Maybe With Netsrik who was also the Special Beginners winner. Best Veteran was Karen Maskell’s Kazkell Thyme To Dream JW ShCM VW.
Well done to everyone who came away with a placement card and congratulations to the winners.
At this show Selena (Gleniren Daddy’s Starmaker) was entered for the first time in the prestigious Eukanuba Puppy Stakes class. Huge entry of sixty five dogs with the BIS rng full to capacity. The judge was respected all breed specialist Lee Cox (Vanitonia). Selena won the class and later went into the final with the two winners from the previous days. The Papillon flag flew high as she won the final heat and now goes forward to the Finals of the Eukanuba Pup of The Year. For nine months of age at the show, she had an exciting two days of showing.
One of my favourite shows was next on the calendar Bath Championship Show. The showground is always laid out beautifully and runs like clockwork with Lee Cox at the helm and his band of very hard working committee members.
It was a cold, cold day and although sunny at times the winds were nippy to say the least. Toy Group Judge: Mr N Gourley
Puppy Toy Group Judge: Richard Bott, Special Beginners Toy Group Judge: Mr N Gourley, Veteran Toy Group Judge: Mr G Hill
Best in Show Judge: Gavin Robertson
For this show it was to be breed specialist Sophie Langdon (Skyvana) as the Papillon judge. A first time experience for her three week old baby Grace, who had lots of cuddles during the day from folk, it was dual purpose I think, either to keep Grace warm or themselves. But she behaved beautifully and both Mum and Grandma Sue must have been so proud of her.
The winners on the day for Sophie were as follows:
DCC/ BOB Kirsty and Evan Ryan and Kathleen Roosen’s Ch U Knock Me Off My Feet Daydream Believers with Feorlig (Imp Bel).
BCC The Rev’d Kirsty Wells and Amanda Brown’s Metamorphic Vista JW. Very well done to you both.
BPIB / TPGP1 and Best Puppy In Show Irene & Glenn Robb’s Gleniren Daddy’s Starmaker. A very special show indeed, for this little girl. Richard Bott judged the TPGP and on the last day we returned under Gavin Robertson with six other beautiful puppies taking part in BPIS. The Afghan went RBPIS.
Best Veteran and BVGP3 was Susie Orchard’s Ringland Yoko’s Solo At Panspayon Sh.CM ShCEx VW. Many congratulations Susie.
RDCC Chris Anderson’s Pappretty Grt Expectations and RBCC Kirsty & Evan Ryan’s Ch Feorlig Smart Cookie JW. Congratulattions to everyone.
A big thank you must go to Gary Thompson for giving everyone at home the luxury of being able to watch the Papillon judging live stream with Papillon Live. It takes a lot of hard work to spend all day videoing the classes and I know many people our overjoyed to be able to watch what is going on and giving them the feel of actually being at the show themselves. At times Rebecca has helped out and also Jane when perhaps Gary is unable to be there. A big thank you to you all from me and I am sure everyone else.
Until next time, take care on the roads and most of all enjoy the day of showing your beautiful Papillons.
