18 March 2016 – Dog World

On Sunday 6 March the Northern and Eastern Counties Papillon Club held its open show at Carlton Village Hall near Goole. Jerry Munroe the clubs secretary sent me news of the goings on for the day. Breed specialist Helen Wheeler drew an excellent entry of 99 dogs making 123 entries. Despite a few electrical hiccups in the kitchen and a very temperamental smoke alarm, the catering team of Christine and Ken McFarlane managed to deliver the bacon rolls for breakfast followed by their usual array of hot and cold meals throughout the day. Reports have come back that there was a lovely social atmosphere and all present enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

BIS was Angela Skelton’s Waterwings See The Stars, a fitting tribute to his breeder, the late Irene Reid, who’s birthday it would have been this weekend. RBIS was the upcoming tri bitch Farleysbane Frilly Filly From Farthinghall co-owned by Katriona Milroy, breeders Sue & Ian Victor & Emma McLaughlin. BPIS was Carol Lees’s bitch Lafford Penny Blacks, BVIS was Liz & Alan Bartram’s CH Burghbridge UR Solid Gold Skyvana JW shCM. Unfortunately no Phalenes were present at the show. The JH classes were judged by Christine Foynes (Lafay) and BJHIS was 16 year old Caragh McGrath.

Jerry mentioned that the former Treasurer John Edson is currently in hospital and I am sure we send our best wishes for a speedy recovery. Jerry would like to thank all the members and exhibitors for their continued support for the clubs events.

Up in Bonnie Scotland The Butterfly Dog Club of Scotland held their Open show with Breed Specialist Mr Aidan Foynes (Lafay) being the judge for the day. Mrs Sue Deamer (Bankshill) took on the task of judging the Junior Handling. I believe the refreshments were excellent under the supervision of Elma Sinclair and Gillian Frame and the committee were very grateful for their help in keeping everyone watered and fed. Keeping the ring in order and ticking along smoothly Galdys Baillie and Nicola Pitcaithly were the ring stewards and saw that the judge had everything he required.
The principal winners for theis show were as follows. BIS Karen Smith’s (handled by daughter Jennifer) CH Papplewick Prety In Pink at Aidinaken JW shCM, RBIS Angela Skelton Waterwings Sea the Stars, BP Gill Breen Zolota Skyla at Lylecroft, BV Anne McGregor Meerwings the Swallowtale by Pyatshaw and finally BJH Kyle Davidson.

At a General Open Show Newark & DCS Carol Lees had a good day taking TPGP1 with her youngster Lafford Black Penny. The breed judge was Mr Nick Gourley (Whitchstone) and the BPIS judge was Mr Gavin Robertson (Soletrader).

We are just about to head off for the NEC so short and sweet this week. I will be reporting on all the news for Crufts next week and we will be a few days away from Easter, chocolate heaven.
